Nick Pope, the goalie for Newcastle United, is scheduled to have shoulder surgery, which may cause him to miss four months of play.
Nick Pop dislocated his shoulder during Saturday’s 1-0 victory of Newcastle United over Manchester United.
In the final 10 minutes of the match, the 31-year-old English goalie was injured after diving to block a goal effort. In the 83rd minute of the match, he was replaced by Martin Dźbravka, the goalie from Slovakia.
Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United, says Pope still has “a chance” to recover in time for the summer 2024 European Championships.
Howe remarked, “He’s naturally down because he has the Euros ahead of him and we have some big games coming up.”
We’re considering him because this is just another odd injury we’ve experienced. He will undoubtedly need surgery, so he will be absent for a while—roughly four months.”
Pope, who paid an undisclosed amount to join Newcastle in June 2022, is one of the team’s injury concerns, along with Callum Wilson, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, and Sven Botman, the team’s two defenders.
This season, the former Burnley goalie had participated in every minute of Newcastle’s Premier League and Champions League play.
After his injury, there were rumors that Newcastle will sign free agent and former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to replace Pope during the January transfer window.
