Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Friday promoted Tri-Nation midfielder Miguel Azeez to first team training ahead of his side’s clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Spanish tactician will not be able to rely on the services of midfield duo Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe when the Clarets visit, while club captain Martin Odegaard is racing against the clock to be fit for the matchday 12 tie.
With Azeez having limited options in the middle of the pitch, Arteta decided to include him in the matchday squad against Burnley.
Born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother. Azeez was linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer transfer window, but the move did not happen. The English-Spanish-Nigerian youngster was tipped to be a future regular at Arsenal during his teenage years, but fell out of favor after unsuccessful loan spells at Portsmouth, UD Ibiza and Wigan Athletic.
He hasn’t played a single minute since the season began, only making two substitute appearances in Premier League 2.
Azeez was born in September 2002 and is listed as an Arsenal U21 player on the Premier League roster. Should the situation call for it, he can play against Vincent Kompany’s squad on Saturday.Despite being called up five times for Premier League matches, the former England U20 international was not used off the bench each time.
