The Washington Commanders acted swiftly after firing head coach Ron Rivera, choosing Adam Peters to take over as general manager. Peters, who comes from the San Francisco 49ers, will now have the responsibility of selecting Rivera’s successor.
According to earlier rumors, the Commanders are hiring head coaches using a different strategy than simply selecting the most well-known candidate. If that’s the case, Mike Vrabel, Jim Harbaugh, or Bill Belichick would probably be at the top of the list. However, as previously said, the Commanders are anticipated to take a different course.
Ben Johnson of Detroit is apparently the top head coach target for the Washington Commanders.
The Washington Commanders are still in the early stages of their process, so they should continue to be adaptable and receptive to ideas while they look for a coach. But according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Washington’s main target is Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, who has been a very popular contender for head coach over the last two seasons.
Since joining the Lions in 2022, Johnson has called plays for Dan Campbell’s squad, which has had a top-ten scoring attack the previous two seasons. The Lions offensive coordinator decided to remove his name from consideration and the organization hired Frank Reich in place of Johnson, despite reports that Carolina Panthers team owner David Tepper also desired to hire Johnson during the previous offseason. It is believed that Johnson is still a top target in Carolina as the Panthers, who are once again searching for a new head coach, are considering their options. However, Russini’s claim indicates that they are not the only team considering the growing talent.
