The start of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign has been rocky, but the Reds have weathered the storm and are undefeated after three games before meeting Aston Villa on Sunday at Anfield.
Liverpool faced difficulties in each of the first three games, but perseverance and grit allowed them to come out with seven points. In two of them, a player was sent off, and while Alexis Mac Allister was able to regain his eligibility, Virgil van Dijk will miss this game.
After losing to Newcastle United on the first day, they recovered by winning their following two games and crushing Hibernian in the Europa Conference League playoffs. However, that additional European trip can deplete their energy and exhaust them before the crucial league game.
Three points here would be remarkable for the team as the visitors haven’t defeated Liverpool since the infamous 7-2 victory back in 2020 and haven’t triumphed at Anfield since 2014.
Up until this point, Aston Villa has been the model of attacking effectiveness, making the most of their chances. Despite having only 45 shots, which ranks 11th in the English top flight, they have scored the second-most predicted goals (7.57 xG) through three league games.
They will cause problems for Liverpool, who are still ironing out the knots in their new-look lineup and are playing without the suspended Virgil van Dijk.
