Nigeria’s Favour Ofili qualified for the women’s 200-meter final of the Paris Olympics by finishing second in heat 1 with a time that was another season-best. Ofili came in second in 22.05 seconds, trailing only recently crowned Olympic 100-meter champion Julien Alfred in 21.98 seconds. McKenzie Long of the USA placed third in 22.30s.
Ofili’s 22.05s is an improvement on the 22.24s she ran in the first round on Sunday.
She becomes the first Nigerian athlete to qualify for the final of an event at the ongoing Olympics.
