Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz when the January transfer window opens.
Reporter Fabrizio Romano claimed the Brazilian is the Gunners’ top target, followed by a report from TEAMtalk claiming the player is interested in a move to the Emirates, even though he could cost £60m.
Most X-fans would be in favor of signing Luiz, but some are skeptical about his ability and price tag:
Luiz’s asking price could halt Arsenal’s decline
If Villa last as long as some reports claim, you won’t see Mikel Arteta moving in favor of Luiz in the new year.
Financial Fair Play is already a concern, meaning the Gunners would probably have to sell someone before buying.
Are there alternative targets for Arsenal for Luiz? Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is also believed to be on the club’s radar. However, there are a number of reasons why a move for the Spaniard may not be on the cards.
Firstly, the midfielder previously deliberately turned down a move to North London, opting to stay at Real Sociedad last January.
Second, Arsenal would probably have to pay the 24-year-old’s €60m (£52m) release clause; a number that is only slightly below that of Luiz.
