Only Arsenal news Gabriel Martinelli plays as a center forward in Brazil, why not Arsenal? Gabriel Jesus had a disappointing 2023-24 season due to injuries. Three months into the season, the Brazilian has already missed eight games (in all competitions) for Arsenal after being injured at the beginning of the season and then again at the end of October. Mikel Arteta found a way to cope with the absence of the Brazilian squad by playing Nketiah, who failed to be consistent, and also Trossard, who was fantastic. What if Arteta could test other general striking options besides Nketiah and Trossard and he could be another great option in the absence of Gabriel Jesus? Why shouldn’t Arteta try Gabriel Martinelli in the No.9 role? Unai Emery sometimes used the left winger as a winger, but Arteta didn’t really buy into the idea. According to reports and highlights from Brazil’s training video, head coach Fernando Diniz has announced his intention to use Martinelli as a No.9. Apparently it was noticed in training that Martinelli appeared as a striker in a 4-2-3-1 system ahead of Raphinha, Rodrigo and Vinicius Junior. Brazil are preparing to face Colombia and Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers. It remains to be seen if Martinelli plays at No.9 in Richarlison’s absence and if it works. If it works, it would be great not only for Brazil but also for Arsenal. Last season, Arsenal legend Martin Keown stated that he thought Martinelli’s best role would be as a striker, as he is a natural goalscorer. Keown told BT Sport: “I definitely think he’s a natural goalscorer. “I would have thought that the central position was his natural position. But looking from the left, we can now go further inside. “We saw it with [Mohamed] Salah and [Sadio] Mane, especially when they played together as a pair, just suffocating because Saka does the same. So they get a bit more freedom. “But put him in the middle and he will score. I think he has everything in the game.” Martinelli as a striker: What do you think? Daniel O CALLING ALL ARSENAL FANS!
