Burnley transfer window: over £90m spent on 15 signings – has Kompany getten what he needs?
Burnley’s final transfer act occurred at 11 p.m. on deadline day, and it summed up a hectic window.
Last Friday, Mike Tresor became the club’s 15th and final signing; a young, energetic attacker who can help Burnley now and in the future. He arrived from Genk on an initial loan with a purchase obligation of €18 million (£15.4 million; $19.3 million).
It had not been an easy transaction, but then, nothing about this summer has been. Burnley had been interested in Tresor throughout the window, but there was significant competition across Europe, and the initial price tag was prohibitively expensive. When it fell within Burnley’s budget, there were suggestions that the player was reconsidering – reports that were denied by club sources who spoke anonymously to protect their relationships.
Tresor missed his private flight to Manchester on Wednesday evening, two days before the deadline, “for various reasons,” according to Matt Williams, the club’s co-chief operating officer. Tresor, who realized he had missed the flight, instead traveled overnight to Amsterdam to catch the first planned aircraft to Manchester for his medical, according to Williams.
During that BBC interview, Williams highlighted his dissatisfaction with agencies. Even as early as June.
