The Arsenal player’s agent says Mikel Arteta is a priority
Despite criticism from some pundits and Arsenal fans, goalkeeper David Ray’s agent has revealed that Mikel Arteta has always wanted him as his first-choice goalkeeper.
Raya, who signed on loan from Brentford in the summer transfer window, replaced Aaron Ramsdale as the main shot stopper. Although Raya has been investigated for mistakes that have led to goals or near misses, his agent has insisted that Raya is enjoying life at the Emirates.
Arteta, a long-time admirer of the Spain international, initially considered signing Raya before settling on Aaron Ramsdale in the summer
“Arsenal first showed interest three years ago, in 2021. They tried to buy him but Brentford didn’t want to sell him for any price. When they bought Aaron Ramsdale, it was the easier option, but David was always a priority.
Although Arteta may prefer Raya to Ramsdale, game analysts have questioned the decision to replace the England international following major unforced errors by the Spanish goalkeeper.
According to SofaScore, the Spaniard scored 0.7 goals per match, recorded four goals and played an average of one per game. Meanwhile, Ramsdale conceded one goal per game, scored one and averaged slightly more per game than Raya (1.3).
