Douglas Luiz and Thomas Partey could be involved in Arsenal’s January window saga this winter. BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND – MARCH 19: Thomas Partey of Aston Villa fights for possession during the Premier League match between Aston Villa and Arsenal on March 19, 2022 in Birmingham, England.
However, with his contract expiring in the summer, it’s hard to see how the money will be made and instead it would be ideal to simply save by releasing him. Apart from the Portuguese national team, any departure would be a surprise.

“He is progressing very well but it was a serious injury,” Arteta said. “Hopefully it will be weeks rather than months and he will work on it.
“He needs support and hopefully the injury heals properly and we can get him back because he’s a big player for us.”
Any potential deal would mean Arsenal losing one of their best players, but if they are unavailable, how big is that loss? The money isn’t too much either, considering he has a year left on his contract after this season and is now in his thirties.
Another option for players to leave is on loan. With minutes so tight, Emile Smith Rowe could spend the second half of the season away from the club to get regular minutes ahead of the summer European tournament. However, he is currently sidelined with a knee injury for which a timetable has not yet been given. Arteta found that uneasiness, but a return in the winter could give him an opportunity to connect with other parties due to his temporary absence.
In addition to potential income and some players, there may be room for reinvestment. In midfield, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz appears to be the main target.
The Brazilian would be a much-needed addition thanks to his box-to-box style, which has been missing from the Gunnersand#039; opportunities after Granit Xhaka left for Bayer Leverkusen. However, any deal would be expensive given the 25-year-old’s long-term contract and impressive form.
Arsenal have held Ivan Toney’s transfer talks with Emile Smith Rowe frustrated by a knee injury.
Another area worth investing in could be defence, with Jurrien Timber out and six players just not enough for three games. Another injury or two, put into perspective by the substitution of Takehiro Tomiyasu against Sevilla, and it looks very thin.
Arsenal have been linked with Girona’s Mikael Gutierrez, the Spain under-21 left-back, who has impressed for the high-flying side in La Liga. Arsenal have previously shown interest in Jeremie Frimpong and Mohamed Simakan, who remained at their clubs after the summer deadline. It will be interesting to see how Edu looks when the winter window sails. There are opportunities to invest and sell, but with how efficient and quick the Gunners are, many have both doubts and unwavering optimism.
