SAN DIEGO, CA With a two-run single to cap a five-run second inning, rookie Tobias Myers maintained his fantastic June by winning his fourth straight start, and the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 6-2 on Sunday to escape a four-game sweep.
With three strikeouts and no walks in five innings, Myers (5-2) limited the Padres to one run and five hits. He won his fifth straight decision going back to May 21 and gave up one or no earned runs for the fourth time in his June starts, all of which were Brewers victories. In the second inning, the Brewers scored five runs on six hits off of Michael King (5-5) to give him all the help he needed.
Sal Frelick and Tyler Black each had run-scoring singles, and Brice Turang added an RBI triple in addition to Perkins’ two-run single. The Padres’ winning run of four games came to an end. It had equaled their best streak of the season. Luis Arraez singled in Ha-Seong Kim in the fifth inning, his third hit in a row with two outs, and San Diego finally got to Myers.
With 104 hits, Arraez leads the MLB in hits. This was his 32nd multi-hit game in the major leagues. He hasn’t missed more than four games in a row without recording multiple hits.
