Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith (56) in game. Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 22, 2024. Kylee Surike | Special to PennLivePennLive
Pittsburgh Steelers star pass rusher Alex Highsmith told Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he was ‘okay’ after straining his groin against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Highsmith tried extending for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and took an awkward step while trying to sack him. He exited the game shortly thereafter and walked straight to the locker room after the injury. He did not return to the game but stood on the sideline in street clothes.
Highsmith’s status for their game against the Indianapolis Colts remains up in the air. In relief, Nick Herbig had two sacks, including a strip sack. DeMarvin Leal is the third pass rusher behind Herbig and T.J. Watt if Highsmith can not go. Ade Ogundeji is the lone edge rusher on the practice squad, so the Steeler could look to the outside to add someone if they are worried about Highsmith missing the game.
