Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage four-star safety Demetres Samuel Jr. flipped his commitment from Syracuse to Florida back in late July. He’s remained in the fold since then, and was last in Gainesville on August 31 for UF’s season opening loss at home to Miami. That’s the lone game Samuel Jr. has attended at Florida, but he’s watched all three of their other games from afar, including their latest win over Mississippi State this past Saturday.
“They’re 2-2 right now, and I think it was a big win in their last game,” he said of Florida’s performance through four games. “They are improving each week, and they just have to continue to keep the same energy and keep pushing forward.”
Though Florida has come out victorious in half of their games this season, the defense has few strong performances. Florida’s secondary has been dealing with injuries, and the lack of depth has been obvious. While he would love to see them pick things up, Samuel views the struggles in the secondary has opportunity for him in the future.
