They’re heading into the locker rooms at halftime in East Rutherford with the Minnesota Vikings leading the New York Giants by a score of 14-3 in the 2024 NFL season opener.
The Giants wound up punting the ball away early in the quarter, and a great special teams play saw them down the ball at the Vikings’ one-inch line. But, undeterred, the Vikings took the ball and marched down the field and found themselves facing a 4th-and-2 from the Giants’ 3-yard line. Kevin O’Connell kept the offense on the field, and his confidence was rewarded by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Justin Jefferson. Will Reichard hit the extra point, and it was 14-3 in favor of the Vikings.
That’s how they went into the locker room at halftime. Darnold has been very impressive in the first half, completing 13-of-14 passes for 151 yards and the touchdown to Jefferson. His lone incompletion came with under two minutes left in the half.
The exclamation point on the half came from rookie Dallas Turner, who collected his first NFL sack to help halt the Giants’ two-minute drill.
