After breaking a world record in spectacular style, Divine Iheme’s supporters believe a rivalry with Gout Gout is imminent. Fans believe a rivalry between the 14-year-old sprinter and fellow sensation Gout Gout is imminent after the 14-year-old broke a new world record in the 100 meters.
Brit Divine Iheme looks to be a name to remember for years to come in athletics after he ran the 100m in a rapid 10.30s.
He bagged the incredible time at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, blitzing the previous record of 10.51 seconds set by Jamaican speedster Sachin Dennis
Iheme was running the race at about 11.3 seconds when he was 12 and one can only imagine how quick he can go if he continues in the same vein.
Iheme is a genuine talent, but he’s not the only 100-meter wonderkid creating a lot of noise.
Australian 16-year-old Gout Gout gained international attention after finishing the event in a scorching 10.29 seconds at the Queensland Athletics Championships in March. Given their accomplishments, many are asking if Usain Bolt’s record would be in jeopardy. Both players are predicted to have a rivalry similar to that of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Someone wrote, “Devine Iheme and Gout Gout could be the Ronaldo and Messi of 100m sprinting.” Another exclaimed, “Wow, what a promising future.
“How is that even possible?” inquired a third. Not many adult professional sprinters run that quickly.” One more person merely said, “These kids man.” Given that he once ran times comparable to the fastest man living, Gout has been compared to Bolt. The comparison started with Australian track and field Olympian Jane Flemming, who claimed he “built like him” and ran like Bolt.
Although he is flattered by the Bolt similarities, Gout has acknowledged them and is attempting to forge his own route. “It’s pretty cool because Usain Bolt is arguably the greatest athlete of all time and just being compared to him is a great feeling,” Gout said to news.com.au in April.
Naturally, I’m Gout Gout, therefore I’m attempting to establish myself. It would be a fantastic accomplishment if I could reach his level.” Featured Photo Credits: Vic Pascoe on YouTube, Getty, and England Athletics
