The 35-year-old former BVB midfielder has signed a deal until June 2027.
Borussia Dortmund Presents New Head Coach…
The dust has barely settled on the announcement that Edin Terzić has resigned as BVB’s head coach, but the club wasted no time at all in lining up his replacement, officially confirming that Nuri Şahin will become Borussia Dortmund’s new head coach earlier today. Şahin has agreed a three-year deal, which will run until 2027, and while the club has not confirmed who will join him in his coaching staff, it is believed that Sven Bender will continue in his role as an assistant.
The 35-year-old German-born Turkey international made over 250 appearances for Borussia Dortmund and had brief spells at Real Madrid and Liverpool during his playing career. This will be his second stint as a head coach, having managed Antalyaspor from 2021 to 2023. Speaking after the announcement, Şahin said that it is “a great honor for me to be able to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund” and promised that “from day one, we will do everything in our power and with great passion to achieve the maximum possible success.”
It took the club barely 24 hours to find Terzić’s replacement. We certainly can’t accuse them of dragging their feet. Let’s hope Şahin is ready to take BVB into a new era.
