Newcastle’s goal against Arsenal caused huge controversy
The Premier League and Independent Key Match Events Panel have confirmed that Stuart Attwelland’s decision to award Newcastle’s goal against Arsenal last Saturday was in fact correct.
Despite Arteta’s claims to the contrary, the panel ruled that there was insufficient evidence that the ball had gone out of play before Willock received it and they could not prove that Gordon was offside. The most controversial decision was Joelintonand#039’s apparent pressure on Gabriel.
Joelinton had two hands on Gabrieland’s back, although some felt the Arsenaland defender could have done more to prevent the goal and was not prevented. Four panelists agreed with the latter statement – noting: and quot;Even if Joelinton is holding Gabriel’s hand, it is not enough to call a foul because Gabriel played the ball before contact. ;
