Premier League’s Next Breakout Stars: Who Will Follow Kroupi, Thiago and O’Reilly?
Every Premier League season produces a new generation of players who go from promising prospects to established first-team names almost overnight. The 2025/26 campaign was no different, with Eli Junior Kroupi, Igor Thiago and Nico O’Reilly among the young players who seized their opportunities and announced themselves on the biggest stage.
Kroupi was particularly impressive for Bournemouth, finishing the campaign with 13 Premier League goals and earning widespread attention before a foot injury ruled him out for the early part of the new season. O’Reilly, meanwhile, went from Manchester City academy prospect to one of the league’s most talked-about young players, even winning the Premier League Young Player of the Year award. Thiago also enjoyed a significant breakthrough at Brentford after overcoming an injury-hit start to his English career.
So, with the 2026/27 season underway, the obvious question is: who will be next?
Max Dowman – Arsenal
Few young players have generated as much excitement as Arsenal teenager Max Dowman.
The attacking midfielder has been widely identified as one of the Premier League’s next potential superstars. His technical ability, confidence in possession and willingness to take on defenders make him a particularly intriguing prospect.
Arsenal’s title-winning squad already possesses considerable attacking quality, but Dowman could benefit from increased opportunities as the club balances domestic and European commitments. His biggest challenge will be turning spectacular cameos into consistent first-team performances.
If he manages that, the teenager could quickly become one of the names everyone is talking about.
Rio Ngumoha – Liverpool
Liverpool are entering a new era under Andoni Iraola, and that transition could create opportunities for the club’s young players.
One player who could benefit most is Rio Ngumoha. The teenage winger possesses the pace, directness and technical confidence required to make an impact in the Premier League.
Liverpool have already shown a willingness to trust youth, and Ngumoha could become an important part of the club’s next generation. With Mohamed Salah no longer at Anfield, there is also greater room for emerging attacking players to establish themselves.
Ryan McAidoo – Manchester City
Manchester City have long been one of England’s most productive clubs when it comes to developing young attacking talent, and Ryan McAidoo is another player attracting attention.
He has been described as a dynamic winger with an eye for goal and creative qualities. With City undergoing a major transition following Pep Guardiola’s departure, opportunities for academy graduates could become more significant.
The club’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, will have to balance the pressure to compete for trophies with the need to develop the next generation. McAidoo could be one of the beneficiaries.
Brian Madjo – Aston Villa
Aston Villa could have one of the most exciting teenage forwards in the league in Brian Madjo.
The 17-year-old joined Villa from Metz and has already caught the eye during pre-season, scoring four goals in recent friendlies. His size, movement and physical power have drawn comparisons with some of the Premier League’s elite forwards.
Pre-season form should always be treated cautiously, but Madjo has the physical profile and attacking instincts to make defenders uncomfortable. If Unai Emery gives him meaningful opportunities, he could be one of the season’s surprise packages.
Zadok Yohanna – Brighton
Brighton have built a reputation for identifying young talent before it becomes widely recognised, and Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna fits that model perfectly.
The 19-year-old arrived after impressing with AIK in Sweden, where he recorded five goals and four assists in just 12 appearances. His acceleration, unpredictability and ability to attack from the wing make him a fascinating addition to Brighton’s squad.
Brighton’s willingness to give young players opportunities could be crucial. Yohanna may need time to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football, but his raw qualities suggest he could make a significant impression.
Antoni Milambo – Brentford
Brentford could provide another breakout platform for Antoni Milambo.
The midfielder arrived from Feyenoord with considerable expectations but endured a frustrating first season after suffering an ACL injury. Now fit again, he has the opportunity to show why Brentford invested heavily in him.
His technical quality and attacking instincts could make him an important addition to Brentford’s midfield. A healthy campaign could be the turning point in his English career.
The next generation is already knocking
What made Kroupi, Thiago and O’Reilly’s stories so compelling was not simply their age. It was the speed at which they transformed potential into genuine Premier League influence.
The 2026/27 season appears ready to continue that trend. Premier League clubs are increasingly willing to trust teenagers and young players, while academy systems and sophisticated recruitment networks are producing talent at an extraordinary rate. Recent previews have highlighted youngsters such as Dowman, Ngumoha, McAidoo and others as players capable of making the jump.
There will inevitably be surprises. Some of the most exciting players before the season begins may struggle for minutes, while an unfamiliar name could emerge from nowhere and become a regular starter.
That is the beauty of the Premier League’s youth revolution.
Kroupi, Thiago and O’Reilly have already shown what is possible. Now the stage is set for the next group of youngsters to make their mark.
