Academy Loan Watch Wins for Oyebade and Brown

West Ham United’s academy continues to see its young players gain valuable senior experience away from the London Stadium, with Rayan Oyebade and Luis Brown both enjoying winning results for their respective loan clubs over the weekend.

 

The two defenders are currently developing their game in the National League and National League South respectively, and both were involved as their teams picked up important victories. For West Ham, such experiences remain an important part of the pathway from academy football to senior competition.

 

Oyebade was involved as Southend United produced an impressive comeback to defeat Yeovil Town 3-2 at Roots Hall in the National League. The 19-year-old defender started the match among the substitutes before being introduced in the second half as Southend turned the game around.

 

Yeovil established a two-goal advantage, with Archie Davies opening the scoring before Luke McCormick doubled the visitors’ lead early in the second half. Southend, however, responded strongly and gradually took control of the contest.

 

Darren Oldaker pulled one goal back in the 66th minute before Leon Chambers-Parillon levelled the scores 13 minutes later. The comeback was completed in the 85th minute when Promise Omochere found the decisive goal to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory for the home side.

 

Oyebade entered the contest in the 63rd minute, replacing Harry Taylor, and helped Southend protect their advantage during the closing stages. His involvement represented another opportunity to experience the demands of senior football, particularly in a competitive National League encounter.

 

The defender joined Southend on loan from West Ham during the summer after progressing through the Hammers’ academy. He made his senior career move with the aim of gaining regular first-team experience and adapting to the physical and tactical demands of men’s football.

 

His early spell has already provided valuable exposure. Before the Yeovil victory, Oyebade had featured in Southend’s opening fixtures, including wins against Scunthorpe United and Solihull Moors. He also experienced his first defeat in senior football when Southend were beaten 3-1 by Kidderminster Harriers.

 

Meanwhile, Luis Brown also tasted victory as Braintree Town secured a 2-1 away win against Slough Town in the National League South.

 

Brown started at centre-back for Braintree and completed the match as his side claimed all three points at Arbour Park. The result represented an encouraging moment for the 20-year-old, who only recently joined Braintree on loan from West Ham.

 

Braintree made an excellent start when Reuben Swann fired them into a sixth-minute lead with a low effort from outside the penalty area. Slough responded through Chris Regis, who restored parity before half-time.

 

The visitors remained composed, however, and eventually found the winning goal six minutes from full-time. Anisius Lewis finished after receiving a well-weighted pass from Afi Adebayo, giving Braintree a 2-1 advantage that they successfully defended until the final whistle.

 

For Brown, the performance was another useful step in his development. He joined Braintree in August on a loan deal designed to provide him with senior football and greater exposure to the demands of competitive league action. His move to the National League South gives him the opportunity to test himself regularly against experienced players while continuing his development.

 

The importance of these loan spells extends beyond individual match results. For academy players, regular involvement in senior football can accelerate development by exposing them to different tactical systems, stronger physical challenges and the pressure of competing for points.

 

West Ham currently have both Oyebade and Brown among their academy players gaining senior experience away from the club. Oyebade is spending the season with Southend United, while Brown is on loan with Braintree Town.

 

Their latest victories therefore represent more than just three points for their respective clubs. They also provide valuable competitive experience for two young defenders who remain part of West Ham’s long-term development pathway.

 

With the season still in its early stages, both players will be hoping to build on these performances, establish themselves as regular contributors and continue making progress during their loan spells.

 

For West Ham, the objective will be to monitor that development closely. If Oyebade and Brown can maintain their involvement, adapt to senior football and continue improving, their loan experiences could prove significant chapters in their journeys towards establishing themselves at a higher level.
