Justin Herron, a veteran offensive tackle signed by the Detroit Lions earlier this month, suffered an apparent right arm injury in pregame warmups ahead of Friday night’s preseason matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.
Herron, a sixth-round pick in 2020, was seen visibly upset leaving the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Lions were already light at offensive tackle heading into the game, with starters Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker not expected to play and top reserves Dan Skipper (ankle) and Jamarco Jones (ankle) out.
Detroit’s starting offensive line Friday was, from left to right, Giovanni Manu, Kayode Awosika, Trystan Colon, Tate Ratledge and Mason Miller. Manu will likely see significant reps against the Falcons, and Miller, an undrafted free agent, could see some increased opportunties, too. It’s also worth keeping an eye on former fifth-round pick Colby Sorsdal, who has the versatility to play guard and tackle.
Herron, 29, has made 11 career starts. He began his professional career with the New England Patriots (2020-22) before making stops with the Las Vegas Raiders (2023) and New Orleans Saints (2024). He missed the entire 2024 season with a knee injury.
