Amon-Ra St. Brown blasts Lions fans for criticizing Drew Petzing hire image
Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown fired back at fans for criticizing the team’s hiring of Drew Petzing as the new offensive coordinator.
Earlier this month, the Lions fired John Morton as offensive coordinator after just a single season. After a relatively brief search, the team identified Petzing as Morton’s replacement. Petzing most recently served as the OC of the Arizona Cardinals.
Some Lions fans weren’t happy with the hire, but St. Brown urged patience from those fans while also questioning their football intelligence.
“Do you guys have no trust in Dan [Campbell] and the Lions? Do you think they’d just hire a random dude? Be for real,” St. Brown said on a recent episode of his St. Brown podcast. “You think they don’t know what they’re doing?… Most of you guys don’t really know much about anything, about any ball, and you’re tweeting about a coach who was hired that you guys don’t like because of X, Y, Z.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love all Lions fans. But they are so quick to make judgments about who we hired, who we did this. Bro, relax. Calm down. Let the whole thing play out. Just let it play out. Relax.”
These comments might not be super well-received by Lions fans given the disappointing 2025 season that they just lived through.
Keep in mind, this is a fan base that has never seen their team make it to the Super Bowl, let alone win one. So, excuse them for feeling a bit of urgency and desperation.
With that said though, it can be difficult to judge a hire before we get to see them in their new environment, so perhaps fans in Detroit should give Petzing the benefit of the doubt until he provides a reason for ire.
