Nottingham Forest have taken a firmer position in the Cuiabano situation, as Brazilian rivals Botafogo and Vasco da Gama both push to sign the left-back.
According to ESPN Brazil, Nottingham Forest will not consider another loan and will only negotiate a permanent sale.
That stance immediately changes the landscape. What looked like a discussion about extensions and temporary solutions now turns into a straight financial question.
Loan requests meet Nottingham Forest resistance
Vasco already tested the waters with a loan enquiry and received a clear no. Now Botafogo re-entered the race, even under a transfer ban. Both clubs want Cuiabano on loan, but Forest want cash.
Marinakis has hardened his stance as he no longer wants to discuss temporary fixes or short-term arrangements.
Either way, ESPN says his future at Forest remains open. The player prefers a return to Brazil rather than a move to what the outlet describes as a secondary European option.
Bottom line is, if he leaves, it will be via a sale. That blocks both Brazilian clubs for now, unless one of them changes the structure of the deal.
So what started as a story about loans and flexibility has become a tug-of-war driven by valuation and leverage. The two Brazilian sides wants the same player. Marinakis hold the contract. And by drawing a line, Forest have forced the next move to come from Brazil.
