Billy Napier has been insanely impressive as Florida’s head coach this season, especially in the past few weeks. The Gators, facing as tough of a schedule as you will see in college football, are now 6-5 on the year and will be going bowling after beating No. 9 Ole Miss, 24-17.
The star of the show on Saturday was freshman QB DJ Lagway, who posted his best game of the season against what has been one of the best defensive units in the country. Lagway finished having completed 10 of his 17 passes for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Following the game, Napier had the following to say regarding Lagway’s outing for Florida.
Lagway has had an up and down season, but the freshman showed his toughness across the past few weeks, first against the Tigers and once again Saturday against the Rebels. It’s amazing what getting back to 100% can do for you, huh?
The Gators helped a few teams out on Saturday with their win over Lane Kiffin’s Rebels, none more than Tennessee. The Vols are now back in control of their own destiny for a spot in the Playoff, needing a win over Vanderbilt next weekend.
The win also helps Indiana, which lost by 3 touchdowns to Ohio State. The Hoosiers may or may not be ranked above 10-2 SEC teams by season’s end, but there’s no way the Hoosiers drop below Ole Miss without another loss. Barring some real chaos, Indiana should still crack the field.
As for Florida, the Gators now look ahead to a rivalry matchup against Florida State, searching for 7 wins on the season.
