15 former Town players who are still free agents after deadline day

 

Ex-Ipswich Town players Tom Lawrence, Scott Fraser and Tyreece John-Jules are among 16 ex-Blues looking for new clubs.

The summer transfer window has now shut, but there are plenty of former Ipswich Town players who are still free agents. Ross Halls takes a look at which players are without a club…

MACAULEY BONNE

 

Town career: 2021-2022 (On loan from QPR)

 

Appearances: 46 Goals: 12

 

The 29-year-old forward is without a club after he was not offered a new deal at Southend United, whom he joined on a free transfer from Gillingham last summer.

 

Bonne scored five goals in 48 games for the Shrimpers last season as they reached the fifth tier play-off final, but they were beaten 3-2 by Oldham Athletic at Wembley.

MUSTAPHA CARAYOL

 

Town career: 2018

 

Appearances: 8 Goals: 1

 

The veteran winger is looking for his 19th club of his career after his short spell at Wealdstone came to a end.

 

 

Carayol joined the National League side in March after departing Exeter City in the January. He helped the Stones remain in the fifth tier last campaign.

TOM CARROLL

 

Town career: 2021-2022

 

Appearances: 17

 

The 33-year-old midfielder was released by League One side Reading at the end of the 2024/25 season.

 

Carroll only joined the Royals in March, having left MK Dons by mutual consent the previous month. He made nine sub appearances under former Town loanee Noel Hunt.

JACK COLBACK

 

Town career: 2009-2011 (On loan from Sunderland)

 

Appearances: 54 Goals: 5

 

The 35-year-old midfielder departed QPR after two seasons at Loftus Road, having joined from Nottingham Forest in 2023.

 

Colback made 55 appearances in all competitions for the R’s, scoring four goals.

JOSH EMMANUEL

 

Town career: 2015-2019

 

Appearances: 29

 

The 28-year-old full-back left his most recent short-term spell at Halifax Town, having joined the fifth tier side in March.

 

Emmanuel had started the 2024/25 campaign at Doncaster Rovers following his departure from Carlisle United the season prior.

SCOTT FRASER

 

Town career: 2021-2023

 

Appearances: 20 Goals: 1

 

The Scottish midfielder is searching for his next club after an injury hit spell at Dundee which limited him to just five appearances for the Dark Blues in 2024/25.

 

Fraser returned to his native Scotland in September 2024 after his contract at Charlton Athletic was cancelled by mutual consent last summer.

TYREECE JOHN-JULES

 

Town career: 2022-2023 (On loan from Arsenal)

 

Appearances: 21 Goals: 3

 

The 24-year-old attacker’s contract at Crawley Town was not renewed after suffering relegation from the third tier last campaign.

 

John-Jules made 27 appearances for the Red Devils, having joined them following his release from Arsenal last summer. He has been training regularly with the PFA throughout pre-season.

JONAS KNUDSEN

 

Town career: 2015-2019

 

Appearances: 155 Goals: 4

 

The Danish full-back has been without a club since the start of 2024 after his contract at Swedish champions Malmo expired.

 

Knudsen won three league titles and a domestic cup there, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the summer of 2021. Nothing has been confirmed about his future in football.

JOSH HARROP

 

Town career: 2021 (On loan from Preston)

 

Appearances: 14

 

The 29-year-old forward has been without a club since leaving Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2024 after suffering relegation from League One with the Robins

 

Harrop was last seen taking part in the Baller League – a six-a-side tournament which debuted in March. He netted eight goals and provided 4 assists in 9 games for FC Rules the World.

TOM LAWRENCE

 

Town career: 2016-2017 (On loan from Leicester City)

 

Appearances: 36 Goals: 11

 

The 31-year-old attacker left Rangers after three seasons at the Scottish giants.

 

Lawrence netted 12 goals in 69 games, but injuries have been a key factor during his time in Scotland. He has been linked with several teams, including a return to his hometown club Wrexham, but is still a free agent.

JON NOLAN

 

Town career: 2018-2022

 

Appearances: 70 Goals: 10

 

The 33-year-old midfielder is still without a club after leaving Macclesfield at the end of 2023/24.

 

Nolan has been said to had fallen out of love with the game. He spent time on trial at former club Shrewsbury Town last summer to prove his fitness under Paul Hurst but wasn’t offered a deal. It’s unclear if he will return to football.

JOE PIGOTT

 

Town career: 2021-2023

 

Appearances: 28 Goals: 3

 

The 31-year-old forward is looking for his 15th club of his career after his release from Leyton Orient this summer.

 

Pigott spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, where he helped Johnnie Jackson’s side win promotion to League One.

RYAN TUNNICLIFFE

 

Town career: 2013-2014 (On loan from Man United)

 

Appearances: 29

 

The 32-year-old midfielder is looking for his next club after leaving Adelaide United after an unsuccessful two-year spell at the Australian outfit.

 

Tunnicliffe claimed he was treated ‘disgracefully’ at the A-League side following his departure. He played just four minutes for the club in 2024/25.

GRANT WARD

 

Town career: 2016-2019

 

Appearances: 98 Goals: 8

 

The 30-year-old midfielder left Bristol Rovers after two-and-a-half years , having joined on a free transfer from Blackpool in January 2023.

 

Ward featured 38 times in all competitions for Rovers last season as they were relegated from the third tier. He has been training with the PFA throughout pre-season.

CONNOR WICKHAM

 

Town career: 2006-2011

 

Appearances: 72 Goals: 15

 

The 32-year-old forward has been without a club since being released by Charlton Athletic at the end of 2023/24.

 

Earlier this year, Wickham was a part of Watford’s U21 squad and trained with the club’s academy in order to get himself fit.
