A potential signing’s personality is a “massive” consideration for Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes.
City are yet to bring in any new recruits this January but are hoping at the very least to strengthen their attacking ranks.
And anybody arriving won’t just have the footballing skillset that City believe could help them, but the personality traits that Cifuentes craves and feels the squad is missing.
Any player that is a target for City this month will be vetted by Cifuentes, with the manager looking for personal references.
“For me, personality is massive,” Cifuentes said. “It says a lot about the kind of person.
“Recruiting is not just about watching players in the clips. It’s much deeper than this. It’s about finding the right personality for what we need at the moment, for what we’ve got at the moment and for where we want to go.
“Personal references are always a part of recruitment. Perhaps there are managers who take care of it in a deeper way than others. Definitely for me it’s a very important one.
“Depending on the group, depending on the target, depending on the situation, you might need more of certain qualities. It’s the same as when you look at football skills.”
Cifuentes has spoken regularly about the mentality and emotions of the squad and it was again a topic after Tuesday’s draw with Wrexham.
He felt that the squad let frustration get the better of them after they conceded the opening goal, calling on them to keep their cool until the final whistle.
Although, a level of frustration over the defensive record is to be expected. City are on a 22-game run without keeping a clean sheet in the Championship. The next longest such run in the division is seven, at West Brom.
