ITFC – Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna gestures to the fans after the match
Ipswich Town have been urged to consider a loan swoop for Chelsea striker Deivid Washington this winter by East Anglian Daily Times reporter Alex Jones.
Ipswich Town have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the January transfer window to boost their promotion push. ITFC have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any final deals.

The Tractor Boys are sat in 3rd place in the Championship table after 27 fixtures behind Coventry City and Middlesbrough. They won 2-0 at home to Bristol City last time out after two goals by winger Jack Clarke.
Jounalist Jones believes Chelsea attacker Washington could be an ‘exciting’ option for the Suffolk outfit and has delivered his verdict, as per a report by East Anglian Daily Times: “The striker will likely be low on confidence as a result, and while a Championship loan would probably be best for him, would Town be able to build him back up quickly enough to make him a worthwhile addition for half a season? That’s the big question.
“If so, he would be an exciting option. He’s 6’2, surprisingly physical yet an agile no.9 with a keen eye for goal when presented with good opportunities. Under Kieran McKenna, he could really kick on.”

Ipswich Town could do with another option at the top end of the pitch. ITFC currently have George Hirst, Ivan Azon and Chuba Akpom at their disposal.
The Tractor Boys would benefit from some more competition and depth going forward though. With that in mind, Chelsea youngster Washington is someone who could plug a gap between now and the summer.
Washington, 20, was snapped up by the Premier League giants for £17.2million back in August 2023. He has since struggled for first-team minutes at Stamford Bridge though and his future in London is up in the air right now.

The youngster rose up through the ranks at Santos following a spell at Gremio. He went on to score two goals in 16 games for his former team as a teenager before leaving South America for a new challenge in England.
His transfer hasn’t quite gone to plan yet though and he hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have hoped to. Nevertheless, he still has plenty of time on his side.

What now for Ipswich Town and Kieran McKenna?
Ipswich Town will be weighing up various different targets at this moment in time. ITFC are eyeing an immediate return to the top flight following their relegation last year.
They finished in the bottom three along with Leicester City and Southampton. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Washington leave Chelsea on a potential temporary deal soon to get some experience under his belt.
It remains to be seen at this stage though whether the Tractor Boys would be interested in his services. McKenna‘s men are back in action following their victory over Bristol City with an away trip to South Yorkshire this weekend to play Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Ipswich Town will be in confident mood and are on a roll as they chase down Coventry City and Middlesbrough. They are only two points behind the latter.
