Setback – Colchester United forward Tyreece Simpson suffers Achilles rupture and calf tear
FORMER Colchester United striker Tyreece Simpson has been dealt a cruel blow after rupturing his Achilles tendon during pre-season.
The 23-year-old, who spent the latter half of last season on loan with the U’s from Stevenage, shared the unfortunate news on social media.
Simpson has also sustained a minor calf tear and now faces an extended period out of action.
Despite the setback, he is approaching the situation with his usual resilience.
Posting online, Simpson said: “My aim this off-season was to get my body right so I could return to pre-season in the best shape of my life – and I did that.
“We all know injuries are part of the game, and I’m now facing one of the toughest – a ruptured Achilles tendon and a small tear in my calf.
“Anyone close to me knows how hard I’ve worked. So, to suffer this kind of setback so early in pre-season is difficult to accept.
“I’m fortunate to still be only 23, which means time is on my side. I’ve already faced enough to know this won’t break me – this moment won’t define my future.
“There’s still so much to be grateful for. No matter how often I’m knocked down, I’ll always rise – every single time.
“I’ll come back stronger than ever, believe that. Now it’s time to push harder and trust the process.
“For now, it’s about recovery – getting my body and mind right, and supporting others.
“I’ll return. T”
Simpson arrived at Colchester on loan from Stevenage in January.
Overall, the former Ipswich Town academy product played 20 league matches for the U’s, starting six times.
He netted two goals during his loan spell, both of which came in fixtures against Notts County.
Just last month, the former Swindon Town striker earned his first international cap for St Kitts and Nevis in World Cup qualifiers versus Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada.
