Georgia scrimmage No. 2 is in the books! Did we learn anything about the Bulldogs that we didn’t already know? Rusty Mansell dives in on his thoughts as to where things stand coming out of this one and what we did and didn’t garner from the closed matchup of the offense and defense. Who could be making a move in an all-important weekend for Georgia?
So, who’s it gonna be?
Speaking of making a move, two spots look to be more open than the rest for the Bulldogs. Who’s taking the reins at each? We kicked it off with a discussion of the right guard spot, where Michael Uini, Juan Gaston, and Daniel Calhoun seem to be the names we’ve heard the most about.
Coming into the season, who seems to hold the edge from where we’re sitting? While Uini and Calhoun may have the experience edge, Gaston has come on with a vengeance since hitting campus in Athens. Right now, it looks like the freshman may have the lead on the spot, but there’s no reason to write off a talented group around him either.

Meanwhile, defensively, the second Georgia safety spot feels like one that’s been oft discussed, with a couple of transfers in Adrian Maddox and Zion Branch. JaCorey Thomas, meanwhile, has been the consistent on-roster threat.
So, who’s got the edge now? Maddox looks to be the one surging, with the wind at his back and fueled by the hunger that a final year can draw out of a player, but Thomas’ experience is also a compelling factor for the Bulldogs. Branch, meanwhile, has been quiet in the last few weeks. Is this Maddox’s job to lose as things move forward? We have our thoughts.
What does Georgia do now?
So, now that the scrimmages are done, where do we all go from here? How will the Bulldogs spend the time? When does prep begin for Game 1 and how will Georgia handle what will be a strange task in facing a Marshall squad that is almost completely new look?
