Latest Dallas Cowboys news confirms suspicion about recent trade for WR Jonathan Mingo

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Jonathan Mingo (15) runs on to the field before the game at Bank of America Stadium.

The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles play football today and it pains us to admit the excitement isn’t there as in most years, when both teams appear to be fighting for the NFC East title.

The Cowboys are 3-5 and Dak Prescott is set to miss the remainder of the regular season barring any alternatives presented to him on Monday during his final meeting with a hamstring specialist.

And yet, Cowboys Nation officially has a reason to be excited about the Week 10 matchup that’s under 90 minutes away, as the team revealed its official list of inactives: Superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons is back for the first time since Week 4.

Despite not going on Injured Reserve, Parsons missed four games since suffering an ankle injury in New York. Now, he’s back and ready to go after QB Jalen Hurts. He could get a friendly matchup to if lined up against backup left tackle Fred Johnson, who has been a liability for the Eagles offense upon replacing an injured Jordan Mailata.

Watching the potential mismatch should make the game more fun for Cowboys fans who aren’t high on the team’s playoff chances, which sit around the 3% mark according to various statistical models.

New Cowboys WR Jonathan Mingo inactive following trade

Despite being traded for on Tuesday, the Cowboys’ newest weapon won’t be used just yet, confirming suspicions many had after the team elevated WR Jalen Cropper from the practice squad on Saturday. He was always unlikely to play this Sunday against the Eagles.

The news isn’t exactly a surprise considering Mingo was able to get one padded practice in before the game. It also serves as a reminder that the Cowboys acquired the former second-round pick with their sights set in the future, not as an effort to turn around the 2024 season, as he’s on a rookie deal through 2026. Patience is a luxury they can afford when it comes to this particular acquisition.

They were never “buyers,” they rather gambled on a player they liked in the 2023 NFL Draft in hopes they can develop him for the next couple of seasons.
