Another Town player jumping ship to a PL that isn’t necessarily the best one to go too.
Wish him luck at Brentford, but wouldn’t be surprised if he finds himself in a relegation season there.
Another Exit seems certain now – understood because Omari needs the Premiership.
If you know Football you know the Championship is no place for Omari to further his progress and career.
Hope it works out for him.
Fairly inevitable that Hutchinson will go, it’s a shame but that’s football. With Burns and Ogbene options for the right hand side I’m not overly concerned. A £10m profit can’t be sniffed at plus it will give more leeway to sign other players. Definitely still need two central midfielders with Morsey now going and two centre forwards. I can see a few busy weeks coming up for Ashton and Co.
Can we offload Philogene to Brentford instead? I’d much rather keep Omari. Think he should have a point to prove after last season.
On assumption that we did not do the deal originally as the release clause was for upfront payment, this would make sense for us, albeit we lose a decent player.
We have too may wide men or number 10’s, and if we are comfortable on PSR then it would suggest that the funds could all be re-invested in where we are not blessed with options such as CF & CM or maybe even a RB (also need to move Muric on)
Get 40 million then get players in where we really need then central midfield and up top. Think this sale will make us stronger .
If Mbeumo is going for £70 million we should get £70 million for Hutchinson (it’s a fair deal)
Tommyc, Brentford did not meet the criteria in time, but remember that clause would have been put there by Omari’s people as a get out….that does not mean we value him at that price. Suspect and hope that our valuation should be significantly higher. If he was Brazilian it would be double and Real/Barca would be interested, as they are targeting youth/potential and Omari could be anything in the right team!
this makes sense for all parties and I wish him well. Think of the path he has had to take from Arsenal to Chelsea, to Championship with us and then up – of course he wants to play in the PL in London. Why wouldn’t he ?
Don’t forget Chrksea waiting in the eungs with their greedy hands wide open for their hefty cut of any fee we get for OH…. so it’s not all roses because any player we bring into replace him will undoubtedly cost us, top whack.
Shame I thought we had shaken them off. But never mind we can now screw them for 50m.
Let’s see how much we get for him then it shouldn’t be any less than 35 million….
The idea that we will bounce straight back to the Prem seems to be more delusional by the day. I am certainly losing hope of that with each big-player exit. All of our best players are now gone. Of course we need a rebuild after relegation, but I’m no longer looking at a team that is automatically going to be challenging at the top.
Hope I am wrong, and I hope MA and KMK and others know what they are doing. They haven’t let me down yet, but I am becoming more and more worried by the day. Hutch hasn’t gone anywhere yet, but it does seem likely now Brentford have a large amount of money to throw at this. I am not normally pessimistic, but what do we have left that looks like Prem quality?
Brentford can’t afford to pay Ipswich Hutchinson fee. Ratcliffe started go fund me account to raise capital as he has run out of people to sack !
Wish him all the best but think he’s lightweight for prem and if he scores half as many goals as the guy he’s replacing I’ll eat my hay
If we get 40 that will be approx 15 million profit after the %25 – that’s good money for the average season he had.
Reinvest in areas of more need the jobs a good un!!!
That’s our best 5 players from last season gone.
I’m sure we can expect some decent recruits through the door soon – but this window has certainly not followed the previous pattern of getting new signings in early to bed them in asap.
Omari was our first choice No.10 for next season. We still have Chappers but we need another individual to play that role as well as recruiting to CM and Cf now. Maybe we will switch to 4-3-3
Palmer
H.Clarke O’Shea Greaves Townsend
Johnson Matusiwa Davis
Philogene Hirst Szmodics
It was inevitable…time for ogbene to step up and I’m sure he will. He will be like having a new signing. Now it’s all about getting the right money. Big mistake by Hutchinson in my opinion as I think Brentford will be relegated this season.
There are plenty of clubs I could understand him moving to but I genuinely think Brentford could be a mistake.
i agree Bangalore, i cant see how we can be favourites to go up. The squad will be an unknown quantity, People saying we will be promoted are going with hearts, not head imo ,It will be a hell of an achievement if we do go up thats for sure, but as things stand i cant see where all the optimism is coming from . We need to bring some real quality to strengthen the squad and not much if any sign of that happening imo looking like last minute scramble again to me ..Hope im wrong i realy do .
The only player in the squad with that little extra. Ogbene is still unknown, Philogene is nowhere near the same quality, Wes has forgotten how to beat his man(ooo er). Hard to find a replacement for a young man who is obviously too good for the championship. With a few weeks to go, we’re starting to look very ordinary.
I’m sorry as we see last season omari isn’t a premiership player as yet still got a lot to learn and would be best off doing that here unfortunately with footballers nowadays it ain’t about loyalty it’s about money we signed him on loan he’s did well mckenna wanted him when no one else did and this is how he wanna repay the club
him and delap have gone right down in my estimation of them as players when the going get tough let’s jump ship for more money
If he goes to Brentford and they do get relegated he’s only in the same situation as at Ipswich (but obviously more expensive but with another Premier season). If he has a good season then others could want to buy him so he may not have to play again in the Championship. So not a bad move for him, assuming he does well which is what people are expecting in the Championship anyway if he stays. If Brentford stay up and he does well, that’s another season in the shop window.
I honestly think we have a great squad – Ogbene and Philogene will be like new signings – Broadhead and Chaplin as N0 10 options – just need 1 more midfielder and a CF to rotate with Hirst ..COYB !
Good luck to him and although last season was a disappointing one for him, he has alot of talent, just needs more belief in himself I sometimes think.
Just remember the great goals he scored for us in the Championship, not enough mind!
But how is he a replacement for Mbeumo? Different styles of play and build.
Really, really disappointed in this. Never thought he would go. And to make it worse, a crappy club like Brentford. Relegation fodder!
Not sure we are as strong on the right hand side as some seem to think.
Burns still has to fully recover from his injury and who knows whether he will be back to what he was. Ogbene is further forward in his recovery but for me remains an unknown quantity in this team and again how much has the injury affected him?
If he goes, sell him for no less than £45 mill + £5 mill add on with a 25% sell on clause, then they may have a deal…
People are talking as if this loss is the end of the world. Why?. This is the money we will use to land 2 more CMF.
As people have said above, we have a shedload of option up top, Chaplin is a better ten than Omari and as a wide player he has a lot to learn. Sorry but 3 goals and 2 assists for 31 premier league appearances…… take the money. Sign Hackney, Miller and the mexican boy Ruiz and then look at the squad.
And for all the people who say he doesnt want to come here, thats according to a third tier newspaper on another continent. TYhe negativity and lack of faith in Ashton is astonishing!
Team at the minute with the players we have 4-2-3-1: Palmer, Clarke, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis, Taylor, Matusiwa, Ogbene, Szmodics, Clarke, Hirst.
It’s a real toss up between Clarke and Johnson but I’d go with Clarke (if he can stay fit) as he is one of our own, we will definitely be more on the front foot and he is quicker and can deliver a better ball imo.
In regards to Taylor, I can’t see him playing in a holding role but with the players we have available I’d play him there as Humphrey’s is strong enough for the championship. I can see at least another two new signings in this position.
I’d definitely play Burns in front of Ogbene when fit. I’d love to play Chaplin as the no 10 for his link up play but you can’t leave Szmodics out due to his goal threat.
I think Hirst deserves his chance up front be we definitely need two new signings in this position as Al Hamadi is nowhere near good enough and Hirst’s injury record isn’t great.
Muric and Al Hamadi needs to be sold asap, Slicker, Baggott and Humphrey’s need to go out on loan.
Andy, we’ve seen nothing of Philogene and Ogbone yet. Both got injured and niether had the pre-season they will get now.
I’m full of optimism, if we land the players I think we will, the squad will be awesome
I agree Bazza…it seems people are prone to knocking Philogene now…he only played a few games in a struggling team…in the EFL with Hull he looked very good….a full pre season to recover from his end of season injury…more exposure to Kmc ..let’s be open minded and judge him down the line a bit….we still have a good squad…there are lots of games to be played it’s a long season we have a target on our backs…but let’s support not destroy before a ball is even kicked.
I think Omari is a good player, but the PL found him out. Of course he may develop and quickly but he is nowhere near Delap’s readiness to step back up. I quite like this deal in fact. An ordinary season with us this year and he may have been hard to move on.
Great prospect, wish him all the best, he has a great future.
It looks like Gamechanger were correct when they said we’d sell £100 million worth of players this summer.
It won’t be far off it Muric, and one or two more move on.
It’s not the ‘progress’ Mark sold to us. Literally Sam, Hutch, Delap, Cajuste, Tuenzabe were our best players.
It’s obvious as Brett clearly said. We are for sale.
If so let’s get it done and start building for the future, because the inertia kills a club.
Be a shame , but if we get 40+ mil for him then cant argue . That will buy us 3 quality players in the championship
He seemed out of his depth and didn’t exactly tear things up last season. This move speaks more about him than it does about our club. He’s picked a bang average EPL club where he won’t make much impact. Good luck to him, but I think it’s a flawed choice.
Ashton has said our deals will protect the club, and the money we’d make from this protects the club and allows money for further investment. We still have a solid, solid core. I fail to see the doom and gloom in this. We take the money and invest in the squad.
Brentford though!!!
Suppose he is a Londoner.
Enjoy the smaller crowd, all the best.
The comments on here are mad. We are getting a really significant amount of money £15mil roughly for an unproven player. We were always going to lose our best players it’s what happens when you get relegated. Burnley lost 19. Our squad is still insanely good for this league. The players we have brought in are quality, stats are way better than our current midfield in Matusiwa. We just need one more midfield and a striker however expect chapper to bang the goals in again. We have a better goal keeper than we had last time we were here.
For anybody criticising the leaving players. Of course they are going to go and play in the prem. Everybody would.
Omari is going, so we need to move on. A while back, I was suggesting we needed to be a bit cautious in our belief we’d go straight back up. The Championship is an unforgiving league. But now, there seems to be rather too much pessimism abroad. We have a couple of good additions already, and I’m pretty sure there will be more to come, albeit they might be last-minute, 11 pm signings – that’s what often seems to happen.
And we already have Clarke (very decent player), Ogbene (hopefully ready to fire on all cylinders), and Philogene (who I think can turn into a big asset given the right coaching). Yes, we do need more firepower up front, and I expect this is being looked into. So patience folks! It’s a tough world out there with many vying for a limited number of options. But I’m hopeful we’ll be all set by the time the Brum game comes round. COYB!
Some people on here these days are so far off the reality mark it is literally laughable – Relegation killed the Owners optimism and plan completely, as a result the Club is obviously and undeniably for sale. That’s the long and short of the current situation, it’s now very much a figures game due to the business nature of the Owners, and understood.
That indeed should be no surprise to anyone – and cloud cuckoo land is for those that see fit to live there.
Relegation WAS a DISASTER for the Owners and Club – a reset to Zero almost is where we are right now – with little, if anything, at all certain.
But, all to be revealed by TIME !!
Someone of his quality will be extremely difficult or near impossible to replace now we are in the Championship but it feels like when rather than if he’s leaving so have to accept it and move on.
It was clear when Hutch came here he had ambition beyond us.
Because of the KMcK training he is now worth twice what we paid for him.
Take the money which probably pays for his wages while he was here. (Well done Mr Ashton).
Let him go with our best wishes and thanks for two outstanding seasons.
Doing that encourages all the other such prospects that if you come to Ipswich you will be treated right.
Will be a shame if he does go but he did show he could hang in the Premier League when being played in the correct position and only got better over the season and his outing in the Euros only further showed he needs to be in the Premier League. Its a shame it might not be with us but the profit made (£15-£20m) will help us maybe with other signings and we have very good cover in that side should he go with Ogbene, Jaden and Burns on right with Clarke, Jaden and Broady on left (with Szmods if needed)
I wish him well and can fully understand why he wants PL football. It’s also a great offer which the club can’t really turn down.
But – where are our new additions. At least three excellent players needed prior to Birmingham, who have strengthened already and early. Three weeks today we will be counting down to kick off and we are clearly lacking at least two CM and one possibly two strikers. If Hirst was to get I hired, then we have no one good enough to play. It’s a real concern. Now we need to replace Hutchinson as well!
No one in their teams has mentioned Cédric Kipré – have we forgotten about him already
blueboy1981: I think you make a very strong point – the owners are primarily interested in the finances and do not have the emotional attachment to the club that we supporters have. But it is not in the owners’ interests for us not to do well, so we must hope that they understand the value in our making a strong challenge this season.
I understand why people think we will not be up there this season but I disagree.
For me Szmodics will be the number 10 as at Blackburn he scored one or two goals in that position,Mosey has been replaced as has Burguess.
Town brought players who were top in the Championship just in case they got relegated as they knew it was too early…..as did most of the fans
Obegene Clarke Greaves will do very well in the Championship. O’Shea will be excellent as will Palmer and Davis……..
Plus Hurist Chaplin Taylor and most of all Town have not finished in the market yet
A new striker will be in before the end of the window and Town have money to buy Quality and also a quality midfielder too

Darkhorse28, nowhere did I see anywhere in the letter that Brett rather foolishly sent out, clearly stating ” we are for sale ” . If you can post the concrete proof, then I will post back and personally apologise to you.
If I’ve worked out the maths correctly behind any OH transfer, and my maths isn’t always exemplary (!), then I’ll base my conclusions on, lets say, a selling fee of £40M.
We paid an initial £20M, add to that the top up fee of £2.5M and we have a total outlay of £22.5M. IF the selling price is circa £40M then we have an initial profit on the deal of £17.5M. If I understand things correctly, Chelsea would then be due 25% of that £17.5M profit leaving us with a final profit on the whole deal standing at just over £13M. I’ve no problem in being corrected if I’ve gone wrong somewhere. Football finances are a tricky businesss!
Makes me laugh the likely acceptance of this at whatever profit. As a team we are significantly weaker without him Dalap and Sammy and therefore promotion is a long shot and then what
Don’t go selling your best players and expect success, especially those who know us!
He ain’t gone yet!
Just back from holiday he may well see Brentford as the wrong club right now.
If not we go again.
Mad if he goes to Brentford with all the changes there,
Another player who jumps ship at the first instance, and after a sell on fee going to Chelsea isn’t going to be such a great deal for us. Wonder who is due as his replacement because Burns has had a dreadful injury record the last 2 season and is Ogbene going to come back as strong after such a long lay off? Going to be a very difficult start with having to get these players to know how to play together.
Really, really hoping he doesn’t go. Why sign a 5 year contract? It meant absolutely nothing!
If it is indeed Brentford, it’ll ve a club i hope get relegated and do badly. They’ve already lost a few key players and don’t even have a proper manager at the helm.
Omari, if you read this, just don’t go. Look at the bigger picture. Brent
