Forest Sign Sporting’s Ivory Coast Defender Ousmane Diomande
Nottingham Forest have strengthened their defence with the signing of Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande from Portuguese giants Sporting CP.
The 22-year-old centre-back has agreed to a four-year contract with Forest, with the Premier League club holding an option to extend the deal by a further year. The transfer represents a significant addition to Oliver Glasner’s squad as Forest prepare for the new Premier League season.
Diomande arrives at the City Ground with considerable experience despite his young age. He established himself as an important player at Sporting after joining the Portuguese club and has made more than 150 senior first-team appearances. He also represented Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in his country’s campaign.
Forest’s interest in the defender had been developing for several weeks. Reports initially revealed that the club had made an enquiry for Diomande, with Glasner understood to be particularly keen on the player after previously wanting to sign him during his time at Crystal Palace.
The move is expected to provide Forest with greater strength and athleticism at the heart of their defence. Diomande’s experience in Portugal’s top flight and European competition could also prove valuable as Forest look to build a more competitive squad under Glasner.
The signing further underlines Forest’s intention to invest in quality young players with significant potential, while also addressing the defensive requirements of Glasner’s system.
With Diomande now arriving from Sporting, Forest will hope the Ivory Coast international can quickly adapt to English football and become a key figure in their defensive plans.
