Florida football is in a tough spot midway through the 2024 season. At 4-3 and with underwhelming contributions from quarterback Graham Mertz before his season-ending injury, many fans want Billy Napier out as the Florida Gators head coach, especially with him collecting a career 15-17 record with the SEC club. However, some want to see how he can develop true freshman quarterback and former five-star mega prospect DJ Lagway in an already lost season. Last weekend, Lagway was impressed with his legs while his backfieldmate, Jadan Baugh, scampered for five touchdowns in a 48-20 win over the Kentucky Wildcats.
With an off week this Saturday, Florida will prepare for their harshest test of the 2024 season and Lagway’s career, a road tilt against the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. FanDuel Sportsbook released the opening odds on Friday, placing Florida football as a massive 18.5-point underdog. Cinical Florida fans reacted swiftly through social media, claiming the spread does not do justice to how much better UGA is at football.

NEW: Georgia opens as an 18.5-point favorite vs. Florida next Saturday,
Next Saturday, the Florida football team will travel to EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, for a “neutral” site game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Despite the match happening in Florida, the expectation remains that fans of the top-ranked Bulldogs, which own a sparkling 6-1 record, will overtake the stadium. Per sportsbooks, Georgia will be more than a three-touchdown favorite despite both teams having two weeks to prepare.
Florida football has played three ranked teams this season, getting outscored 97-54. However, in their most recent contest against a top-ranked team, Florida took the Tennessee Volunteers to overtime in Knoxville before their eventual 23-17 loss. Albeit the Gators are 3-1 in their last four, and their lone defeat coming at the hands of a 6-1 Tennessee team, many fans are not optimistic about their chances of hanging with a much superior Georgia opponent:
