AC Milan Ready to Hijack PSG, Man Utd Target Lucas Chevalier

Paris Saint-Germain are still unsure about their goalkeeping situation, with Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future up in the air. If the club decide to move on from the 26-year-old this summer, they’ll need to find a replacement in the transfer market.

Donnarumma is under contract through 2026, but several costly mistakes have raised doubts within the club. Still, his standout performance against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 helped regain some trust.

PSG are prioritizing young French talent, and this offseason could be the right moment to make a change in goal.

As previously reported by SportsZone, the club are eyeing LOSC Lille’s Lucas Chevalier as a possible option. But any move would likely hinge on PSG first finding a suitor for Donnarumma, who has yet to fully convince manager Luis Enrique.

Manchester United are also looking at new goalkeepers. The Sun reports the club are tracking Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens and Chevalier, with André Onana potentially on his way to Saudi Arabia.

Another top European club enters the Lucas Chevalier transfer race

    Mike Maignan

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (h/t Le10Sport) that AC Milan are lining up three possible replacements for Mike Maignan, who still hasn’t signed a contract extension. On their shortlist are Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi, and Chevalier.

PSG are still weighing what to do next with Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Chevalier’s strong form hasn’t gone unnoticed—they’re keeping a close eye on him.

His current market value is believed to be around €40 million, a price tag that doesn’t seem to bother Milan. That said, the club haven’t given up on keeping Maignan and have made him a new contract offer.

As for PSG, any push for Chevalier will likely depend on Donnarumma’s performances for the rest of the Champions League—especially if he avoids costly mistakes.

Rafael Leao and Matteo Gabbia both admitted that they enjoyed playing in a 3-4-3 system for Milan in their 4-0 win away against Udinese on Friday night, with Leao insisting that he is ‘freer’ as a result of having an extra man at the back.

With no Kyle Walker or Emerson Royal available, Milan swapped from a 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3 for the Udinese win on Friday night. It was an impressive performance in the end, as goals from Leao, Strahinja Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders gave Conceicao an emphatic scoreline.

Speaking to Sky Sport after full-time, Gabbia praised head coach Conceicao for the clarity he gave his players in the build-up to the Udinese game on Friday night. He thinks the system got the best out of the team.

“I really enjoyed playing like this. The coach was great: In a few days, he explained what he wants from us, the various stages, when we had to be aggressive,” Gabbia said.

“It worked tonight and gave solidity to the whole team. It was a great initiative.”

Leao, who scored his seventh league goal of the season – and his seventh away from home – added: “In my opinion, yes,” when asked if he felt the change in system got the best out of him.

He continued: “Even defensively, we were compact. With an extra man (at the back), I’m freer up front to go left or right. I got on well with Pulisic and Jovic, and Abraham too when he came on. We did well creatively up front today.”

    • Walker praised for his performance at AC Milan
    • Full-back moved on loan to Milan in January
    • England star keen to stay at AC Milan beyond this season
      • WHAT HAPPENED?

Walker left English champions Manchester City in the January transfer window to join AC Milan on a short-term loan deal. Since moving to Italy, the full-back consistently performed for the Serie A giants which also earned him a call-up to the national team during the March international break

    • Praising Walker’s contribution to his new club, AC Milan legend Joe Jordan claimed that the youngsters at the club are gaining a ‘wealth of knowledge’ from the veteran defender. Jordan had earlier worked with Walker at Tottenham Hotspur when the 73-year-old used to assist then-manager Harry Redknapp.
    • WHAT JOE JORDAN SAID

Speaking SunSport, Jordan said: “I know Kyle Walker because I coached him at Tottenham when Harry Redknapp was the manager, and we sold him to Manchester City. He may be in his 30s now, but he is a fantastic athlete — some players have pace, some have stamina, but Kyle’s blessed with both. Kyle’s an experienced operator, so, as much as he will learn from the Italians, he’ll be passing on a wealth of knowledge to Milan’s younger players too.”

TMW: Manna emerges in Milan’s sporting director pursuit – why Furlani likes him

Giovanni Manna has ended up on AC Milan’s list of candidates for the sporting director role, according to a report, after impressing with his work at Napoli.

Milan are looking to add a sporting director to their management and while Fabio Paratici is the favourite, the Rossoneri have several names on the list. The latest to be added to said list is Giovanni Manna, who currently works as the sporting director of Napoli.

Marco Conterio of TMW states that Manna is ‘well aware’ of Giorgio Furlani’s interest, even if there has been no offer or official contact between the parties. Above all, the Milan CEO is impressed by how Manna has been able to work with Aurelio De Laurentiis and Antonio Conte, who are very strong characters.

Furlani wants to make a decision by the Easter holidays and if it’s not Paratici, then Milan will move for one of the alternatives. In addition to Manna, the likes of Igli Tare (formerly of Lazio) and Tony D’Amico (Atalanta) are also on the Rossoneri’s list.

Once a sporting director has been decided, Milan will also be able to make a decision on the next head coach. Sergio Conceicao is refusing to give up but his departure seemds almost certain.

From USMNT duty to Serie A resumption: Christian Pulisic’s bid to break another Kaka record at Milan starts in Napoli derby

Milan is preparing for one of its most crucial stretches of the season, and Christian Pulisic returns from international duty with the spotlight firmly on him. After a turbulent break with the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), the American star is set to rejoin a side heavily dependent on his contributions.

He will now return to Serie A derby action against Napoli following a difficult international break where the USMNT suffered disappointing losses to Panama and Canada, surrendering the CONCACAF Nations League crown. Despite the struggles with the national team, Pulisic’s role at Milan is unquestioned — and the club will look to him again to lead by example.

Alongside Tijjani Reijnders, the 26-year-old is poised to continue driving the Rossoneri forward, and intriguingly, he also has a piece of club history within touching distance — one that involves one of the greatest names to ever wear the Red and Black’s kit.

Milan’s reliance on Pulisic and Reijnders

Despite a season filled with injuries, inconsistency, and the looming pressure of maintaining UEFA Champions League qualification, Pulisic has emerged as one of Milan’s two most decisive players, sharing the responsibility with Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. The former Premier League winger has thrived under two different managers this season, delivering performances that have quickly elevated him to talisman status at San Siro.

La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted this remarkable influence, stating that, “When considering only the midfielders – at most wingers or the attacking midfielders, but not centre-forwards – Pulisic and Reijnders are the second-best duo of the last 20 years for Milan in Serie A.” Their combined numbers have been staggering. Between them, the pair have 28 goal contributions in just 29 league games, maintaining an impressive average of 0.96 contributions per match.

This return is reminiscent of another iconic Il Diavolo pairing. However, the full scale of Pulisic’s potential achievement will only become apparent when looking deeper into the record books.

    Benchmark duo: Kaka and Seedorf

The mystery that has been quietly building around Pulisic’s individual goal-scoring efforts this season comes into focus when placed against a towering record from the late 2000s. It is none other than Kaka‘s historic 2007-08 FIFA Club World Cup and Ballon d’Or-winning campaign that the USMNT star now has in his sights.

Back then, Kaka and Clarence Seedorf combined for a monumental 38 goals and assists in Serie A, setting a standard that no Milan midfield partnership has come close to matching — until now. The Brazilian maestro had 15 goals and 11 assists that season, while his accomplished Dutch teammate added seven goals and five assists. That campaign may have ended with the Italian giant finishing fifth, but the individual brilliance of their midfield duo became a lasting reference point for future generations.

Now, Pulisic and Reijnders are on the brink of challenging that record. With nine games remaining, the prolific winger already has nine goals and six assists, while Reijnders has added nine goals and three assists. The math is simple — they need just ten more goal contributions combined to equal Kaka and Seedorf’s tally.

  • GdS: Two done, two to play for – Milan still considering futures of Abraham and Sottil

GdS: Two done, two to play for – Milan still considering futures of Abraham and Sottil

There are four loan decisions to be made in the summer by AC Milan, and a report states that the verdict has already been made for two players.

Recruitment this season has been widely scrutinised, especially with the management set to make changes this summer. Even now, there are still questions being asked, but the summer should add further clarity.

Permanent deals may already be being discussed internally, and sporting director candidates may bring their own transfer targets, but there is a special middle ground where current loan players are involved.

Considering they are already with Milan, evaluations are constantly being made, but a final decisions are expected in the summer, though the fate of two players has already been decided.

For Kyle Walker, his stay in Rossoneri will be extended, as reports in recent days have stated. Whereas Joao Felix’s time at the club will come to an end, with Jorge Mendes already trying to find a suitor for next season.

This leaves Tammy Abraham and Riccardo Sottil fighting for their own futures. As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, the Diavolo are uncertain about both at present. Sottil’s €10 million price ‘seems a lot’, which is a similar position to Abraham, due to the high figures demanded by Roma.

It seems a decision will only be made once the sporting director arrives, so until then, Abraham and Sottil must continue to work towards continuity.

Kyle Walker’s mind made up: Man City star makes decision on future at AC Milan ahead of end of loan deal

The England international made the switch to Serie A during the January transfer window, and all indications suggest that he is prepared to extend his stay beyond this season. According to journalist Daniele Longo of Calciomercatoweb, Milan have the option to sign Walker for €5 million (£4.17/$5.40m), a clause they are eager to trigger. The defender is enjoying life in Italy and is keen to continue his career at Milan rather than return to the Premier League.

Walker’s move to Milan was widely seen as the best solution for both the player and Manchester City, particularly given his reduced role under Pep Guardiola this season. On the other hand, in Milan, he has become an integral part of Sergio Conceicao’s lineup. The experienced full-back has already made nine appearances across all competitions, making him a crucial asset for the remainder of the season.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Meanwhile, Alessandro Florenzi, another right-back in Milan’s squad, is also looking to secure his future at the club. The former Roma defender’s contract is set to expire on June 30, but he remains eager to fight for his place. Reports indicate that Florenzi is willing to accept a significant pay cut in order to extend his stay at Milan, setting up an interesting dynamic in the right-back position.

  • GdS: ‘End of their cycle’ – Leao and Gabbia could be the only Scudetto survivors after summer

GdS: ‘End of their cycle’ – Leao and Gabbia could be the only Scudetto survivors after summer

AC Milan will restart/reset/rebuild this summer once again, and there are already suggestions that the club will be left with only two Scudetto winners at the start of next season.

Experience is a vital part of football, especially when it comes to winning titles, and Milan could be about to lessen their squad by more than half of their current Scudetto winners, which certainly comes as a shock.

As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, at present, six of the 27-man squad were part of the 2022 Scudetto success; those being Alessandro Florenzi, Matteo Gabbia, Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori.

However, some players seem to be at the end of their cycle with the Rossoneri, so the club may try to ‘erase the past’.

Florenzi is the most obvious case of this, however, there is a chance that he could remain at the club with a lesser wage and upped importance in the dressing room – a motivator, per chance. However, Hernandez, Maignan and Tomori are all insecure about their futures.

The trio were at the core of the Scudetto success, but now all seem to be on the edge of a fall away from the Diavolo. Maignan, perhaps, has the best chance at continuity, but his position is nowhere near as safe as that of Leao and Gabbia, who seemingly will only be in Rossoneri next season.

New protagonists are needed in the club’s eyes, but there must be some continuity between the two groups.

  • Adli hints at potential return to ‘big club’ Milan: “I became very attached”

Adli hints at potential return to ‘big club’ Milan: “I became very attached”

Yacine Adli has claimed that he is not thinking too much about his future beyond the end of the season, but did acknowledge that he is ‘tied to Milan’.

Adli joined Fiorentina in the most recent summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal, with a €2m loan fee and a €10m option to buy. Before suffering an injury, the Frenchman had taken a central role in the midfield, with a string of impressive performances in Serie A and in the Conference League.

Milan are waiting for signals on Adli’s future just as they are with all the loanees that have buy-out options. However, it could end up being tied to the future of Riccardo Sottil, who joined the Rossoneri in the winter on a loan deal with a €10m option, meaning a swap cannot be ruled out.

Adli spoke during an interview with Radio Sportiva and he was asked about a number of topics from his recent injury to what the future might hold beyond the summer. MilanNews relayed his comments.

How are you after your injury?

“I’m fine at the moment, I spent a month out with a bad ankle injury and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things, understanding what I can do. In any case, I’m feeling better and I’m trying to give my all to get back to my best level as soon as possible.”

Fiorentina’s midfield has changed a lot in recent weeks, and not just because of Fagioli’s arrival…

“We’ve also changed the playing system, it’s good for Fiorentina to see that everyone is at a high level, I personally will try to get back in the best way possible to help my team-mates.

“At the moment I don’t know if I’ll be in front of the defence or as a mezzala, but I’ll be ready to play in any position. At the moment Fiorentina’s midfield is working well.”

    How was the international break?

“The truth is that we have a super focused group, that works hard and tries to put everyone on the same physical and athletic level.

“When you win the week then passes more easily, but as I said we remained focused even during the break because there is still a lot to do with many important commitments that are coming up.”

In the league you have dropped a bit in the table, is the Champions League still a possible objective?

“The league is still very open, we are all close and everything is possible. We will try to stay focused to give our best in every match. We still have head-to-head clashes and we will do our best.

“Now it is difficult to give yourself a clear objective. The league is very open and anything can happen. We have to finish well.”

    Adli and Palladino

    What does your future hold?

“My goal is to finish the season in the best way possible and take Fiorentina as high as possible, then we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.

“Of course, Milan are a big club, I spent two extraordinary years where I became very attached to the club, but Fiorentina are also giving me a lot.

“So we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. Now I’m just thinking about winning games and bringing something important here to Florence.”

As an outside spectator, who do you see as the favorite for the Scudetto?

“In Italy, Inter is currently the strongest team, with so many commitments we have to see how they will be able to manage them. Napoli plays only one game a week and perhaps has the most favourable schedule.

“Atalanta will push until the end and could be the surprise, but I think that if Inter don’t make mistakes they will win the Scudetto.”

  • Without a soul’ – Leonardo criticises Milan for ‘mistake’ of sacking Maldini

Without a soul’ – Leonardo criticises Milan for ‘mistake’ of sacking Maldini

Leonardo believes that AC Milan are a ‘soulless’ club at the moment, and that they made a mistake in letting Paolo Maldini go.

It would be fair to say that Leonardo has a complicated relationship with Milan. Following his retirement, he was the coach of the Rossoneri but then defected in 2010 to become manager of Inter, though Milan would win the 2010-11 title.

The Brazilian then returned to Milan as sporting director in 2018, when Paolo Maldini also came back to work alongside him. However, he did not last long and left under a cloud of expensive flops. In 2019, he returned to PSG as sporting director, until he was sacked in 2022.

Leonardo gave an interview to Quotidiano Sportivo and as expected he was asked for his thoughts on how things are going at his former club Milan. His comments have been relayed by Calciomercato.com.

What is it like playing at San Siro?

“Playing at San Siro creates anxiety, it’s a pressure that’s not easy to handle. But as a coach or manager it’s up to me to understand how the player can free himself from it.

“And in any case the pressure is not only at San Siro but everywhere. There are even players who prefer to start from the bench to be more relaxed.”

    Do Milan need more Milanismo?

“But there was one, his name was Paolo Maldini and as a manager he won a title and reached the semi-final of the Champions League. Then he was fired, and with him a great piece of passion.

“Today everyone has noticed, Milan are empty, without a soul. But these are cycles, it will pass. Also because I think that the club has understood that they made a mistake.”

What was your experience coaching Milan?

“I have experienced certain situations, even though I have been a coach for very little. I started with Milan at a particular time: Kakà had been sold, Maldini had retired. In short, a lot of changes.

“I started the year without winning for 5-6 games. Everyone urged me not to share choices or playing systems with the players and instead I went to the gym and said… ‘let’s play recklessly and take risks’. In reality the defenders didn’t want it (smiles) but over time they digested the idea.”

    Then came the ‘4-2-fantasia’…

“True, it was a gamble, but many said that the “4-2-fantasy” was nice and fun. It all started in the third Champions League match in Madrid, we had fielded a team that was very unbalanced up front and we won 3-2. It had never happened at the Bernabeu…”
