Nottingham Forest Agree Deal for Rising French Midfielder

Nottingham Forest have reportedly reached an agreement to sign highly rated French midfielder Lucas Moreau from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, with the 21-year-old expected to complete his move to the City Ground in the coming days.

Forest have been working quietly behind the scenes on the deal for several weeks and are understood to have beaten competition from a number of clubs in England and across Europe to secure Moreau’s signature.

The midfielder, who has emerged as one of France’s most promising young talents, is believed to have agreed personal terms with Forest after holding positive talks with the club’s recruitment team. The transfer fee is reportedly worth around £18 million, with a further £4 million potentially payable in performance-related bonuses.

Moreau has attracted attention following a breakthrough campaign in France, making 31 appearances in all competitions and contributing four goals and seven assists. His performances have reportedly convinced Forest that he has the ability to adapt quickly to the pace and physical demands of the Premier League.

Sources close to the negotiations claim that Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo was heavily involved in discussions over the move and views Moreau as a player capable of adding creativity and energy to the midfield.

The Portuguese coach is believed to have been impressed by Moreau’s ability to operate in several positions. Primarily a central midfielder, the Frenchman can also play as an attacking midfielder or from the right side of a midfield three.

Forest’s recruitment department is understood to have been monitoring the youngster for more than a year, with scouts regularly attending matches in France. The club reportedly stepped up their interest after Moreau’s impressive run of performances towards the end of last season.

Speaking privately to those close to him, Moreau is said to be excited by the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

The move would represent the biggest transfer of his young career and a major step forward after coming through the youth system at Rennes.

Forest are believed to have been attracted not only by his technical ability but also by his attitude and potential for further development. The club’s recruitment strategy has increasingly focused on identifying young players who can develop at the City Ground while also competing immediately at the highest level.

One source familiar with the negotiations described the deal as “very close”, although final paperwork and a medical still need to be completed before the transfer can officially be announced.

Moreau is expected to travel to England shortly to undergo his medical. If everything goes according to plan, Forest could confirm the signing before the end of the week.

The arrival of the French midfielder would provide additional competition in an area where Forest have been looking for greater depth. His energy, passing range and ability to carry the ball through midfield are qualities the coaching staff believe could give the team another attacking dimension.

There is also an expectation that Moreau will initially be eased into English football rather than immediately being handed a starting role. Forest believe his versatility could allow him to contribute from the bench while he becomes accustomed to the intensity of Premier League football.

The proposed deal would make Moreau one of Forest’s most significant investments in a young player and could prove to be another example of the club attempting to find value in the European market.

Fans have already begun discussing the potential arrival online, with many supporters eager to see whether the youngster can reproduce his impressive form at the City Ground.

Should the transfer be completed, Moreau would become one of the latest additions to a Forest squad that continues to evolve under Espírito Santo.

For now, Forest remain cautious and have yet to make an official announcement. However, with negotiations understood to be at an advanced stage, all indications point towards Lucas Moreau becoming a Nottingham Forest player in the near future.

If the deal is completed as expected, the 21-year-old could be introduced to supporters at the City Ground shortly afterwards, with Forest hoping their latest young recruit can develop into a key player for the club in the years ahead.
