The men’s 100m final at the Canadian Track and Field Championships will be without its fastest man—Jerome Blake.
Blake was disqualified from the 100m semi-finals after a false start. He told officials he had heard a noise from the crowd, which caused him to jump the gun. Despite the call, Blake ran the race under protest and crossed the line first, beating the entire semi-final field.
According to Athletics Canada, Blake did not file the protest in time and will not appear in Friday night’s 100m final in Ottawa.
Blake holds the fastest Canadian 100m time of 2025, clocking 9.97 seconds in June. Despite the disqualification, he remains eligible for national team selection, having met the 100m world championship standard. Blake will be in action again on Saturday at Canadian nationals in the men’s 200m.
