The Crystal Palace star’s dream transfer is disappearing due to Newcastle’s most recent decision.

A Bundesliga duo is being “considered” by Crystal Palace as a center-back reinforcement. Odilon Kossounou and Maxence Lacroix might take Marc Guehi’s place, since Newcastle United is interested in him. Newcastle plans to submit a third bid for Guehi, who is thought to be worth £65 million, shortly.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Crystal Palace has identified Odilon Kossounou and Maxence Lacroix as possible center-back targets this summer in the event that star defender Marc Guehi leaves Newcastle.

Newcastle has been after Guehi for the most of the transfer window, and after having their initial bids rejected, the Magpies plan to resubmit. The Bundesliga pair has been recognized by Palace as possible substitutes for the England international.

This summer, Kossounou, 23, is a fresh target. He played 22 games for Bayer Leverkusen during Xabi Alonso’s team’s historic undefeated season, which saw them win both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, despite the Ivorian’s dismissal in the latter competition’s final.

Lacroix, a 24-year-old Frenchman who played 28 games in the Bundesliga last season, is another player on the radar after a stellar few years at VFL Wolfsburg. He is noted for his quickness and physicality.

The success of any deal depends on Guehi’s likely departure, since Newcastle has been pursuing the defender all summer.
