Manager U-turn after saying Palace target will stay, move now seems likely

Crystal Palace are closing in on a replacement for Joachim Andersen.

The Danish defender has completed his £30m move to Fulham, and this has led to shock from Luka Milivojevic who can’t understand the deal.

Joachim Andersen’s departure from Crystal Palace has led to a frantic search for a replacement, with Tomas Araujo considered.

The deal did not always look so likely for Crystal Palace though, with Ralph Hasenhuttl shooting down the rumours earlier in the summer. But now he has backtracked…

Maxence Lacroix of VfL Wolfsburg plays the ball during the pre-season friendly match between VfL Wolfsburg and Lille OSC on July 24, 2024 in Rheda-…

Ralph Hasenhuttl backtracks over Maxence Lacroix verdict

Speaking with the press on Friday, ahead of his Wolfsburg side heading to Bayern Munich on Sunday, Hasenhuttl backtracked on his comments, admitting he got carried away.

“I already knew when I said it that it wasn’t very smart. I let myself be carried away. In that moment, it perhaps wasn’t the best statement.”

Continuing, Hasenhuttl commented on the fact that Lacroix only has a year remaining on his contract.

“He still has one year left on his contract here, and if he were to leave, we would also need alternatives because we are already not well-staffed in that position. All of this needs to be taken into account, and then the club will make a decision.”

Crystal Palace’s back three is still strong despite Joachim Andersen exit

Despite losing the most experienced member of the backline, the Eagles still boast a pretty strong trio at the back with Marc Guehi and Chris Richards being key parts of this.

Chadi Riad will likely be playing a huge role over the next few years but proved in pre-season that he is ready right now to play.

So these three themselves are pretty strong options, but the Eagles are due to add further names to the group which will only help add to how strong the defence is.

Losing Andersen therefore is not that big of a blow really and could even work out in Oliver Glasner’s favour.
