Jake Evans is set to return to Leicester City squad against Burton Albion
Russell Martin has confirmed why Jake Evans and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were absent in the win over Bristol Rovers
Jake Evans and Bobby De Cordova-Reid missed Leicester City’s pre-season win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night as a precaution and are expected to be involved at Burton Albion today.
Both players were surprise exclusions from the 22-squad that played at the Memorial Stadium earlier this week. Evans and Reid had played 45 minutes of the win over Northampton Town three days earlier.
Kirsten Otchere and Nathan Opoku were on the scoresheet against Rovers as Russell Martin’s men made it two wins in two this summer. This afternoon, they take on League One rivals Burton at the Pirelli Stadium (1pm kick-off) and the pair are expected to be included.
“Both precautionary, I expect both to be involved on Saturday,” Martin said post-match on Tuesday. “It’s really difficult balancing pre-season because they’ve worked so hard.

“You have one guy who is 17 and never has experienced this level of intensity of pre-season before so he’s been hanging on by a thread a little bit, he’s done great. Then you have one guy who is at the other end of the scale, who is 33 and in incredible shape, but took a kick on Saturday.
“There’s no need to force them back tonight. Both players wanted to be involved and I’d rather that, so we have to manage them rather than them trying to pull out.
“It was decided by the medical team, who are great here, that we’re better off waiting for next Saturday.”
New signings Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy will join City’s squad for today’s game. The Foxes then travel to Spain for a week-long warm weather training camp, where they will face Cadiz and Malaga.
