Packers assign rookie jersey numbers; Javon Bullard switches to No. 7

The six Green Bay Packers draftees for 2026 have jersey numbers, with the team announcing the assignments April 27, and one of the more notable numbers signals a change for someone who’s been with the Packers the past two years.

With sixth-round cornerback Domani Jackson getting No. 20, it means slot cornerback/safety Javon Bullard has a new number, reflected as No. 7 on the official Packers roster. Bullard wore No. 22 in college and No. 20 the past two seasons with the Packers, taking advantage of the 2023 rulebook update that allows defensive backs to wear single digits.

First-round draft pick Brandon Cisse will be joining Bullard in the land of the single digits, donning No. 2.

The full rundown:

No. 2: Brandon Cisse, cornerback

The Packers may have drafted a kicker this year, but the number that belonged to the franchise’s all-time points-scorer will get bestowed to a different position entirely. Cisse wore No. 15 in college; that number will forever belong to Bart Starr in Green Bay.

No. 55: Chris McClellan, defensive tackle

Arguably, Za’Darius Smith (2019-21) is the best to wear it, though Harris has the longevity. Others: Desmond Bishop, Randy Scott, Jim Flanigan and Fred Strickland. McClellan actually wore the No. 7 at Missouri that now belongs to Bullard.

No. 51: Dani Dennis-Sutton, edge rusher

It’s hard to get your hands on a jersey number once worn for so long by a Pro Football Hall of Famer like Ringo. Other recent Packers to don 51 include Krys Barnes, Kyler Fackrell and Brady Poppinga. At Penn State, Dennis-Sutton wore No. 33. Niemann remains in Green Bay and wore No. 31 during games last year (which he still has); he had initially been assigned No. 51.

No. 52: Jager Burton, center/guard

No pressure, Jager, but 52 comes with some baggage. Over the past 15-plus years, the jersey number has been occupied by a defensive standout, though Burton’s role will be quite different. Others to wear it include longtime offensive lineman Frank Winters. Burton wore No. 62 at Kentucky.

No. 20: Domani Jackson, cornerback

Jackson wore No. 1 at Alabama, but … well, that number is taken by Micah Parsons. We know the King reference will make Packers fans flinch, but there aren’t many players who have worn the number for as long as King did. Atari Bigby and Marques Anderson also donned the jersey, as did return man Allen Rossum. In a time when numbers were a little more fluid and records not as consistent, Johnny Blood and Curly Lambeau also donned the number, but they’re associated with other numbers, too.

No. 28: Trey Smack, kicker

Smack wore No. 29 in college, so this is close. To find a Packers kicker wearing a jersey in the 20s who last attempted a field goal, you have to go back to 1964 when Willie Wood (a Hall of Fame defensive back) attempted one field goal and made an extra point. Others to wear the number: AJ Dillon, Ahmad Carroll and Ron Pitts. Mike Michalske, a Hall of Famer, also wore it briefly in the 1930s, according to Pro-Football Reference.
