Murillo tells Nottingham Forest fans ‘let the next phase come’ amid exit rumours

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo has sent a cryptic message to fans on social media after being linked with a move to Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender has been one-half of a formidable centre-back partnership alongside Nikola Milenkovic, for the Tricky Trees this season.

Murillo was linked with a move to Chelsea in January, but Forest reportedly rejected an offer for the former Corinthians defender.

Despite the interest from some of the Premier League‘s biggest clubs, Murillo penned a contract extension in January, putting any move on hold for now.

Following the penalty shootout victory against Ipswich, Murillo posted a series of photos of himself in action on Instagram, captioned: “Let the next phase come”.

The Brazilian had a fantastic game against the Tractor Boys whilst being partnered with countryman Morato at centre-back, as Nuno Espirito Santo chose to rest Milenkovic, and may be looking at the next round in his post.

Murillo’s performances have been a key factor as Forest have annihilated pre-season expectations of being relegation candidates, finding themselves in third, ahead of last year’s champions, Man City.

The Brazil international has only scored once this season, but is never shy when it comes to hitting a shot from range, in keeping with former Brazilian defenders David Luiz and Alex, both of whom built a cult-status for their powerful long-shots.

Nottingham Forest must regain form as cracks begin to show

Football Insider Verdict

Following a 7-0 dismantling of Brighton on 1 February, the Tricky Trees have failed to win in 90 minutes since then.

Forest have edged through two FA Cup games against Exeter City and Ipswich on penalties, but lost to Fulham and Newcastle in the Premier League.

A draw against Arsenal allowed the Garibaldis to keep pace with the Gunners in the league, but they now only lead Man City by one point, and Chelsea by two.

Forest could be in line to earn an extra £43million this season, should they finish third, but their recent performances will be a concern to both manager Espirito Santo, and the clubs accountants.

Forest are preparing for Champions League football next season, and may be preparing to comply with UEFA’s ownership rules as such.
