Leicester City are set to have four available slots for free agent signings, and with one of the club’s former favourites available after cancelling his contract.

Championship sides are allowed a maximum of 25 players in their official squad list but do not need to register players considered under-21s.

Leicester City sign four and lose 16 as potential £79m earned in transfer window

For this campaign, players born in 2004 or later are considered under-21s, meaning nine of Marti Cifuentes’ 30-man group would not need to be registered in City’s 25-man squad.

One of the most interesting names among the available free agents is former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigerian cancelled his contract with Sevilla on deadline day, meaning he is free to sign for whichever club wants him.

Iheanacho only joined Sevilla last summer, on a free transfer from City, but failed to make an impact and spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough. He didn’t get on especially well there either.

In all, he played 26 games last season for the two clubs, scoring four goals.

The 28-year-old is now seeking a new club and may yet get a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

Adam Idah left Celtic Park to move to Swansea on deadline day, but with no striker arriving in his place, leaving Rodgers short of options in attack.

There have been reports that the Scottish champions will now make a move for Iheanacho.

While occasionally frustrating, Iheanacho delivered in periods during his seven years at City, finishing with 61 goals and 36 assists in 232 games.
