A football club said it has been left “devastated” after the death of one of its lifelong fans and club stalwarts.

Ipswich Town said Peter Over, 63, served as an official club ambassador and as a trustee of the Ipswich Town Foundation – the club’s charitable arm.

Over died suddenly on Sunday and a spokesperson for the Ipswich said he would be “deeply missed by everyone connected with the club”.

The club’s chairman, Mark Ashton, said: “Everyone within the Ipswich Town family is devastated to hear the news that our good friend and club ambassador Peter Over has passed away.”

He was born in 1962 in Suffolk and grew up in the county.

Over had been a trustee of the Ipswich Town Foundation since 2021 and a director of Ipswich Town PLC since 2015.

He was appointed as club ambassador in May last year, and had held the position of deputy lieutenant for Suffolk, which saw him attend events in the county on behalf of the Royal Family.

He had a “fierce dedication and passion for the club and the county of Suffolk” which ensured Over was trusted, respected and loved by so many, said the club.

“To say Peter has been an incredible friend and colleague since we joined the football club is an understatement. His support, friendship, and personal guidance to me has been invaluable,” said Ashton.

“We are heartbroken to lose someone so special to us and someone who genuinely cared about his club, working tirelessly to support both the club and foundation every day.

“Our sympathies and love are with Peter’s family – he will be missed immensely.”
