Hojlund responds to Milan links and previews San Siro contest: “I’m happy where I am”

Napoli striker Rasmus Højlund has spoken out ahead of his side’s crucial Serie A clash with AC Milan at San Siro, brushing aside speculation linking him with a move to the Rossoneri and reiterating his commitment to the Partenopei.

Højlund, who joined Napoli in a blockbuster transfer from Manchester United last summer, has been one of the standout performers in Serie A so far this season. The Danish international has quickly adapted to life in Italy, combining his physical presence with sharp movement and a knack for big-game goals. With Napoli currently fighting to keep pace with league leaders Inter, every match carries weight, and the San Siro clash promises to be one of the highlights of the round.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Milan are monitoring Højlund as a potential long-term replacement for Olivier Giroud, whose contract expires at the end of the season. However, the 22-year-old was quick to shut down the transfer chatter when asked about it by reporters on Thursday.

“I’ve heard the rumours, but honestly, I’m happy where I am,” Højlund said. “Napoli believed in me when I needed a fresh start, and I’m focused on helping this team achieve its goals. We have a strong squad, a great manager, and an incredible fanbase. That’s where my mind is right now.”

The forward’s words will come as a relief to Napoli supporters, who have embraced him as their new attacking talisman following the departure of Victor Osimhen. His work rate and energy have made him a favourite at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, and his partnership with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has quickly become one of the most exciting attacking duos in the league.

Looking ahead to the Milan clash, Højlund acknowledged the magnitude of the fixture and the challenge of playing at San Siro, a venue steeped in history and pressure.

“Playing at San Siro is always special,” he said. “Milan are a top team with a lot of quality, and they will want to show their home fans a strong performance. For us, it’s about staying disciplined, being clinical when we get chances, and working as a unit. These are the games where we find out what we’re made of.”

Napoli’s manager has also stressed the importance of this fixture in the title race, as dropped points could see Inter extend their lead at the top. Højlund, though, remains confident that his side can rise to the occasion.

“We respect Milan, but we fear no one,” he added. “We’ve been preparing well, we trust each other, and we know what’s at stake. If we play to our strengths, we can leave San Siro with a positive result.”

With Højlund in fine form and Napoli aiming to keep their Scudetto hopes alive, Sunday’s showdown promises to deliver drama, intensity, and perhaps another statement performance from the Danish star.
