Georgia football starting defender’s Sugar Bowl status in doubt

The Georgia Bulldogs could be without one of their starting defenders for the Sugar Bowl against the Ole Miss Rebels on New Year’s Day. Starting defensive end Gabe Harris is dealing with a turf toe injury, per Dawgs Central’s Graham Coffey.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound defender has 26 tackles and one sack this season. Harris’ injury is reportedly minor, but turf toe is easy to reinjure, so Harris’ status will be worth monitoring. Other injured Georgia players include center Drew Bobo, receiver Noah Thomas and running back Bo Walker. We’ll find out more on the injured leading up to the Sugar Bowl.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is unlikely to provide many specifics in press conferences, but the Bulldogs will have to submit an official College Football Playoff injury report three days before Sugar Bowl kickoff and update it the following days, including 90 minutes before game time.

If Harris is unable to play or limited, Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, Elo Modozie, JJ Hanne and Kris Jones would be expected to play more snaps. Jonah-Ajonye would be expected to absorb the largest part of that share.
