Ethiopia has unveiled a formidable team, setting up fierce competition for Kenya’s finest athletes, including Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet, and Mary Moraa.

Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet and Mary Moraa, among other Kenyan stars, will not have it easy at the World Championships as Ethiopia’s athletics federation has unveiled a strong team ahead of the event.

 

Faith Kipyegon, the defending champion in the 1500m and 5000m, will be looking to defend her title, but with the formidable Ethiopian team unveiled, she will not have an easy run.

 

Beatrice Chebet, also looking to make a mark in the 5000m, after securing bronze in 2023, and the 10,000m, will have to put in extra work. However, Beatrice Chebet has been on a roll this season, breaking the 5000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic.

The men’s 10,000m will see Yomif Kejelcha, Berihu Aregawi, and Selemon Barega looking to make a mark for Ethiopia, with Biniam Mehary being named as a reserve.

The men’s 1500m will see Melese Nberet, Ermias Girma, Wegene Adisu, and Abdisa Fayisa (reserve) battle for top honours, with the 20km Race Walk (Athletes in World Rankings quota) attracting Misgana Wakuma (male) and Sintayehu Masire (female).

 

Yohannes Tefera headlines the men’s 800m (Athletes in World Rankings quota), and he will be joined by General Berhanu Ayansa.
