Crystal Palace sent rivals warning over Glasner’s contract situation

The transfer was vetoed because Palace failed to find a replacement on time despite knowing full well that they would likely have to replace Guehi going into the summer window.

Recruitment elsewhere was rather slow, too, although there was a late surge when it comes to spending. Voicing his frustration before the window closed in relation to the Guehi situation, Glasner said: “If you’re thinking like this, you make a mistake,” he said. “Then you’re always reacting to situations. You can’t run a business where you’re always reacting.

“You can but you’ll never have long-term success. You have to be active and plan what’s going on. You can’t say we wait and then on the 28th, if we qualify for the Conference League group stage, then we act. We don’t think like this.”

Given how the window played out, Palace fans will be concerned that Glasner will walk away from his post at the end of his contract, and especially if a big club comes calling, which could well be the case.

Speaking to that, journalist Pete O’Rourke has highlighted that Glasner has kept his future in his own hands. “Glasner himself knows that he’s in a strong position,” he told Football Insider. Things have gotten a bit tense behind the scenes, there’s no getting away from that. He’s in the final year of his contract, so he hold the power in terms of his long-term future.

“I’m sure there’ll be other clubs in the Premier League and across Europe who will be keeping tabs on the situation as well. So for Palace, it might not only be a case of worrying about losing their best players, they might be set to lose their manager at some point in the future too. Glasner is in control of his own destiny now with his contract running down.”

Palace will surely be very keen to get a new contract arranged with Glasner as soon as possible, but given the potential for offers heading into next summer, Glasner may well wait and see what is on the table before signing such a commitment.
