Blues winger Wes Burns is close to joining League One Leicester City.
Burns was absent from the Town squad which beat Le Havre 1-0 in a friendly at Portman Road last night and, as per the Daily Telegraph TWTD understands Burns is expected to undergo a medical with the Foxes today.
The move comes as something of a surprise with the Wales international, a key man in the three promotions under Kieran McKenna, signed a new one-year deal a month ago today.
If the deal is completed, Burns will become the second legendary figure from the McKenna era to move to the King Power Stadium, Conor Chaplin having made the switch earlier in the summer.
Burns, 31, was the first signing of the Gamechanger era when he came in from Fleetwood in the summer of 2021.
The one-time Bristol City trainee went on to make 132 starts and 32 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring 30 goals, among them some of the most memorable of the last few years.
Meanwhile, striker George Hirst continues to be linked with Stoke City, who are reportedly willing to pay up to £10 million for the Scotland international, who is also understood to be interesting Preston North End.

Strange considering he only just signed the deal but he probably isn’t going to get the minutes next season he would want, so a good move for him. Will always be a legend at ITFC and I wish him nothing but the best for the future if he moves on.
I must say I am unsurprised by this, although I thought the move may not come until January with MLS clubs having been interested.
Sad to see Wes go, but wish him all the best. He has exemplified everything that has been good about ITFC since the Gamechanger purchase in 2021.

How odd. Surely Wes wasn’t expecting loads of minutes anyway, was he? Surely mcateer can’t also be on the list. Maybe someone else incoming on the right?
What it did was give Ipswich a fee even if its a million.
Initially it seemed Kasey was on his way. He must have worked his way into the manager’s plans. Good on him.

Whatever happens, wherever he goes he will go with the best wishes of thousands of fans. Great player and servant for the club, and scorer of that tribela goal against Coventry, which remains the best goal I’ve ever seen.
Leicester get Burns and we keep McAteer!!??? They’ve had our pants down there. Still think the pace and directness of Burns is an asset for us.

As I said when Keicester signed Chapoers it was a clever move to get that deal done early in the windiw as might persuade other good players to join the project and that maybe other members of the band might follow and now they have.

Thought he would be useful to stretch defences in the last 20 minutes but realistically he has to look after his own interests and play regular football. Wish him well.
I was more surprised that we gave Wes an extension. Did us well but not the caliber we need. The Leicester project is not dissimilar to where we were in League One, potentially giving Wes a good few years coming into the twlight of his career.
No fee will be involved, i’m sure. Just doing right by Wes and the club.
Bit of a shock but we are building a Premier league squad not just a Premier league team.
I thought it was a clever move keeping him for a year. I know people were critical that it was nostalgia, but I think he adds leadership and experience, as well as quality later in games off the bench.
Hope he’s being replaced by a world beater, otherwise I cant really understand it….

I think some on here are suffering from delusions of grandeur in ‘assuming’ all the new signings are world beaters, prem’ standard plus, and will be successful !! – AND better than the likes of Wes Burns, etc;
Reality after August will return, one way or another.
Big Money players don’t always return good value or guarantee successful.
I for one rate Burns who has proved himself, and he will / would be a big loss.

Was always obvious Burns was a club signing, not a GON signing and I pointed out at the time that I doubt O’Neil had any say in that contract being given. Clearly O’Neil doesn’t rate him. Disappointed is an understatement
I am saddened by this. But you have to credit both MA and Burns for signing a deal meaning we’ll likely get a few quid for him. Burns could’ve easily walked as a free agent.
Let’s be honest we all love Burns and what he’s done for us, that goal at Southampton in April will live with me as my greatest away moment of the last 36 years, but he was only ever going to play a cameo role this season.
and on a side note £10m for Hirst is highway robbery. Bite their hands off.

BUT – I thought he was good for 10-15 games this season – his experience, speed, strength and underrated ability the air will be a miss, I hope he gets a great pay day and will be ‘supporting’ Leicesters promotion push

Bit disappointed with this and it is not just sentiment, truly believe he is our best back up to Fatawu, better than Mcateer and Walle at the minute imo.

Gutted with this news, obviously the squad right now (and more signings due hopefully) is very different from the squad back in the early summer when Wes signed a new contract, so his move is not too much of a surprise.
Still think he could have contributed something as an impact sub. Best of luck Wes you were a Town legend!
