  • Jalen Hurts breaks a 33-year dry spell with his Hall of Fame-worthy determination.

Jalen Hurts breaks a 33-year dry spell with his Hall of Fame-worthy determination.

When Jalen Hurts takes the field for the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, he will be four days older than Tom Brady was when the New England Patriots quarterback made his second Super Bowl appearance. Hurts, at 26 years and 186 days old, will be one of only a few quarterbacks to start two Super Bowls at such a young age, joining Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes, who was also the opponent for Hurts’ first Super Bowl start.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023. The same matchup will take place again in Super Bowl LIX.

Hurts is only the seventh quarterback to return to the Super Bowl after losing his first appearance. Of the six others who did so – including the Kansas City Chiefs’ Len Dawson, Miami Dolphins’ Bob Griese, Minnesota Vikings’ Fran Tarkenton, Denver Broncos’ John Elway, and Buffalo Bills’ Jim Kelly – five are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The exception is Craig Morton, who started in his first Super Bowl for the Dallas Cowboys and his second for the Broncos.

Since Jim Kelly in 1991, no quarterback who lost their first Super Bowl appearance has returned to the big game as a starter. However, Hurts’ return to the Super Bowl as a starter breaks that trend, with 29 quarterbacks who lost their first Super Bowl start and did not get a second opportunity as starters.

When Hurts was asked during a Friday press conference for his most memorable moment from his first Super Bowl, he replied, “Next question.” He responded more thoughtfully to the next question: What did he learn from that game, and how would he apply it this time?

Hurts said, “Hindsight is big. I think from a perspective that not many people have experienced it – everything that comes with the week – it’s important. It’s about being a good influence on the guys who haven’t been there before, answering questions, and helping everyone get closer before the game, because at the end of the day, it’s a business trip, and we’ve worked hard to get here. We want to take advantage of it.”

Hurts shared the advice he’s passed on to his teammates: “Take it a day at a time, be diligent, put in the effort, and work throughout the week.” He emphasized that the demands and distractions of Super Bowl week are simply “part of the job” that comes with the profession.

In his first Super Bowl, Hurts made history by becoming the first player in NFL history with 300 passing yards, 70 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns in the same game. The former Alabama quarterback also threw a touchdown pass.

Hurts’ second Super Bowl appearance comes after a strong learning experience, and despite the loss in 2023, he remains motivated by the lessons learned. His drive to improve continues as he seeks to use his past experiences to prepare for the challenge ahead.

  • The Cowboys are reportedly looking to sign both Arch Manning and Nick Saban.

The Cowboys are reportedly looking to sign both Arch Manning and Nick Saban.

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have chosen Brian Schottenheimer as their head coach of the future following a brief yet chaotic search after Mike McCarthy’s exit. Schottenheimer has garnered support from both the front office and coaching staff, though some outside the organization remain skeptical due to his limited track record.

This will be Schottenheimer’s first head coaching opportunity, making it a challenging promotion considering his background and the expectations that come with the position.

Cam Newton, however, doesn’t believe Schottenheimer will last. He appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” to offer his far-fetched theory, suggesting that Schottenheimer is merely a placeholder for two prominent college names.

“I think they’re tanking for Arch,” Newton stated. “It makes perfect sense. Schottenheimer has ‘one-and-done’ written all over him.”

“You get the first pick of the draft,” he continued. “Then I’m going into my godfather bag and saying, Jerry Jones is a businessman, and he’s going to channel his Don Corleone side and offer Nick Saban a deal he can’t turn down.”

Newton’s shallow theory overlooks many factors, especially how the Cowboys’ franchise operates. Jerry and Stephen Jones selected Schottenheimer due to his familiarity with the team and other considerations.

Whether Schottenheimer is the best choice or not, he’s not just a stopgap for the role. The Cowboys’ intentions do not involve tanking for a high draft pick, and even if Manning stays at Texas for only one season, the Cowboys aren’t intentionally positioning themselves for a future pick.

As for Saban, it’s evident he’s winding down his coaching career and enjoying a rise in the media. Leaving that behind to take one of the toughest coaching roles in sports at his age would be completely out of character for him.

National analysts often miss the mark when making bold statements or trying to stir the pot regarding the Cowboys, an easy target for such takes. But Newton’s offbeat strategy is pure nonsense.

The Cowboys have entrusted Schottenheimer with the role, hoping to salvage the Dak Prescott era. While the team took a step back last season, they appear driven to turn things around at The Star.

  • NFL Fans Upset With Ben Johnson After Eye-Catching Revelation

NFL Fans Upset With Ben Johnson After Eye-Catching Revelation

The Chicago Bears are entering a new era with the hiring of former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their next head coach.

This hire was first reported on January 20, just two days after the Lions’ heartbreaking loss to the Washington Commanders in the NFL playoffs’ Divisional Round.

Johnson wasted no time assembling a staff that includes Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator and Declan Doyle as offensive coordinator.

However, these weren’t rushed decisions, as Allen recently revealed that Johnson had reached out to him late in the season to gauge his interest in the position.

This information has left many Lions fans upset, with accusations that Johnson had already quit on the team.

“Lions had no chance of reaching the SB. Ben was checked out weeks before,” said one fan.

“So during the playoffs???? Makes sense now why they went for it on 3rd and 1 when Gibbs was having such a strong first quarter,” added another.

“Ben Johnson had already checked out. How disappointing,” a third fan commented.

A fourth said, “If that’s true, I’m glad he’s gone. We don’t need anyone in Detroit who doesn’t want to be here.”

“Is this surprising? The guy was picking out drapes for his new house in Chicago instead of planning for the playoffs…” another remarked.

“So what I’m understanding is Ben Johnson was already thinking about his new job at the end of the regular season when we still had the playoffs,” noted one more.

It’s important to mention, however, that despite their loss to the Commanders, Detroit’s offense remained impressive, racking up 521 total yards and four touchdowns.

Ipswich set to miss out on transfer as club close to securing loan deal ahead of them

Ipswich Town are seemingly set to miss out on the signing of Lille striker Mohamed Bayo, as he is reportedly close to joining Antwerp instead.

This information comes from Foot Mercato, who state that the forward is on the verge of leaving Lille, but Ipswich will not be his destination. Along with Besiktas, they had expressed interest in securing his signature and were in talks with Lille regarding a possible transfer this month.

Bayo’s departure will clear the way for Lille to pursue Chuba Akpom from Ajax, continuing a chain of transfers as the window nears its end.

The report suggests that Bayo is eager for the move, having grown frustrated with being a backup at Lille, and wants to secure more playing time. Ipswich, Besiktas, and Antwerp all promised that, but Antwerp seems to have come out on top.

While the situation could still change, it currently looks like Ipswich will miss out on their target.

  • NFL rumors suggest that the Commanders could pose a serious challenge to the Cowboys in the race for a top defensive tackle in free agency.

NFL rumors suggest that the Commanders could pose a serious challenge to the Cowboys in the race for a top defensive tackle in free agency.

The Commanders are aiming to strengthen their defensive line this offseason.

Osa Odighizuwa, 26, has emerged as one of the top interior defensive linemen available in free agency. Last season, he recorded 4.5 sacks and 30 pressures, tying Jets star Quinnen Williams for the second-most among defensive tackles. His ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks has made him a coveted target on the open market.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted Odighizuwa’s rising value, mentioning, “Teams we’ve spoken to view Odighizuwa as the top defensive tackle due to his versatility, durability, and pass-rush traits. Washington is a team to keep an eye on—head coach Dan Quinn has long been a fan of Odighizuwa from their Dallas days.”

Dan Quinn may look to bring Osa Odighizuwa to Washington to bolster the team’s defensive line.

Odighizuwa has started 63 games since being drafted in the third round of the 2021 draft, recording 13.5 sacks and 28 tackles for loss. He played a career-high 860 defensive snaps last season, demonstrating his durability and reliability. While his run defense could use improvement, his ability to rush the passer makes him a valuable asset in passing situations.

With around $90 million in cap space heading into the offseason, Washington is in a solid financial position to make a substantial offer. The Commanders made a surprising run to the NFC Championship Game last season, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels at the helm, and are focused on improving their defense to stay competitive.

Pro Football Focus ranks Odighizuwa as the top free-agent defensive lineman, estimating he could receive a contract worth four years, $85 million. With the Cowboys needing to prioritize a major extension for Micah Parsons, they might struggle to retain Odighizuwa if the market heats up.

John Buhler of FanSided also pointed out the likelihood of Odighizuwa joining Washington, writing, “The right coach now leads the Cowboys’ former defensive coordinator in Washington. Dan Quinn had the upstart Commanders in the NFC Championship in his first year on the job and now has a chance to land one of the top free agents of 2025.”

If the Cowboys can’t match offers from teams with ample cap space like Washington, they risk losing a key member of their defensive front. On the other hand, the Commanders could capitalize on this opportunity to reunite Odighizuwa with Quinn and fortify their defensive line for another playoff push. As free agency nears, Odighizuwa’s decision will be a focal point.

  • Jalen Milroe’s GPA from Alabama has come up again at the Senior Bowl as the NFL Draft approaches.

Jalen Milroe’s GPA from Alabama has come up again at the Senior Bowl as the NFL Draft approaches.

The Alabama Crimson Tide fell short of a College Football Playoff spot this season under head coach Kalen DeBoer in his inaugural year. However, quarterback Jalen Milroe remains highly regarded as he now focuses on the NFL draft for his next chapter.

Milroe’s final college football step, the Senior Bowl, has been key in the evaluation process and is where he’s showcasing his skills this week. While his performance on the field has been impressive, his off-field achievements have also gained attention.

In an interview with NFL Network on Wednesday, Milroe was asked how winning the Academic Heisman Award, or William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the top scholar-athlete, has benefited his mental approach to the game.

“It’s all about the details that come with both,” Milroe said. “Being detail-oriented is crucial, but numbers are also important in areas like pass protection, field numbers, and progressions. There’s a lot you can take from school. As a quarterback, it’s about using my keys and making the most of each opportunity when defenses show different looks. I connect the two when I can.”

His academic accomplishments have also garnered attention, particularly his impressive GPA. Milroe became just the seventh NFF National Scholar-Athlete from Alabama, graduating in December 2023 with a 3.52 GPA and a degree in management with a concentration in entrepreneurship. He’s now pursuing a master’s degree in sports management.

His talent on the field has never been in doubt, and neither have his academic abilities. However, in the lead-up to the NFL draft in April, Milroe still has plenty to prove to NFL scouts and teams to increase his draft stock, which currently remains unpredictable. He’ll be playing in the Senior Bowl on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

  • A fan favorite is predicted to be released by the Detroit Lions.

A fan favorite is predicted to be released by the Detroit Lions.

The Detroit Lions are facing some tough decisions as their offseason begins following their first playoff game loss to the Washington Commanders, which ended their Super Bowl dreams. Now, the team must focus on which players to keep and possibly cut, with an eye on salary cap management for the 2025 season.

As teams review their contracts and potential cuts, Pro Football Network’s Ben Rolfe highlighted some key Detroit Lions players who could be on the chopping block. “Determining cut candidates is tricky, especially with teams undergoing coaching or coordinator changes, as it can alter player value,” said Rolfe.

Though much of Rolfe’s attention is on defensive lineman D.J. Reader, he also mentions wide receiver Kalif Raymond as a possible cut. Raymond’s 2025 cap number sits at $6.4 million, and the Lions could save $3.3 million before June 1 or $4.8 million after.

USA Today’s Ryan Love notes that Raymond is beloved by Lions fans, especially for his successful stint as a kick returner. However, Love points out that Raymond’s productivity could be easily replaced for a modest cap savings in 2025.

Beyond Reader and Raymond, Rolfe also points to linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and EDGE Za’Darius Smith as potential cuts. While Reeves-Maybin’s situation is tricky due to the team’s thin linebacker depth, Smith’s inclusion could surprise fans. Smith was instrumental when Aidan Hutchinson was injured, but Love suggests Smith’s performance wasn’t enough to elevate the Lions back to their early-season form.

Smith’s cap number for 2025 is $5.7 million, and while Love acknowledges Smith’s solid contributions, he believes Smith is not a game-changer as expected from his position. Love also notes that cutting Smith wouldn’t be a major financial loss for the team.

  • 2025 Georgia at Georgia Tech football game moved to Black Friday

2025 Georgia at Georgia Tech football game moved to Black Friday

The Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will meet again on Black Friday for the second year in a row, as announced during the ACC football schedule release show on Monday evening.

Georgia will travel to face Georgia Tech on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025. The game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga., instead of Tech’s home venue, Bobby Dodd Stadium, as announced last fall.

“We’re thankful to our partners at AMB Sports and Entertainment for the chance to bring Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2025,” said Georgia Tech athletics director J Batt in October. “This opportunity to adjust our contract with AMBSE not only offers our fans a new experience in one of the world’s top stadiums, but also provides our department with significant revenue as we enter a new era of college athletics.”

In last season’s Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, Georgia defeated Georgia Tech 44-42 in a thrilling eight-overtime game at Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. The kickoff time and TV broadcast details will be released later this Spring, with the possibility of a primetime broadcast, as in 2024.

The Georgia Bulldogs have won seven straight games against their in-state rival and now lead the all-time series 72-39-5.

Georgia, ranked No. 5 in ESPN’s Way Too Early Top 25, is slated to begin the 2025 season against the Marshall Thundering Herd in Athens on Saturday, Aug. 30. Georgia Tech will open its season the same day on the road against Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.
