Richard Childress Racing Driver Scores NASCAR Xfinity Pole Position In Atlanta

Jesse Love has secured the pole position for the upcoming Bennett Transportation & Logistics 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This is particularly remarkable as it marks his sixth career pole in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, continuing his unbroken streak of pole positions at this venue.

Jesse Love is in his sophomore season in the series and has been building momentum since he won the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. Love’s impressive qualifying lap was clocked at 31.730 seconds with a speed of 174.724 mph.

At just 20 years old, Love is driving the No. 2 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. He is recognized as one of NASCAR’s promising young talents after his dominating performance in the ARCA Menards Series in 2023.

Behind him, Richard Childress Racing has shown consistent success, particularly at superspeedway and drafting track races like those held at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The track itself, a 1.54-mile quad-oval reconfigured in 2022, now presents features similar to those of larger superspeedways, leading to intense pack racing.

In securing this pole, Love becomes just the fifth driver to win three poles in his first three starts at a track, joining the ranks of legends such as Austin Dillon, Joey Logano, Kurt Busch, and Sam Ard.

Following the qualifying round, Love praised his team’s performance and the contribution of his crew chief, Danny Stockman. He explained to the media:

“Yeah, I drive fast race cars, and that obviously helps.

“We have big power, and my crew chief Danny Stockman is really good at his job as well. Qualifying time, my job is pretty easy, and my job is tough tomorrow night.”

Growing up as the fifth of twelve children, Wanyonyi faced considerable economic challenges. At the tender age of 10, financial constraints forced him to abandon his primary education and take up cattle herding to support his family.

Tragedy struck when he was 14, with the passing of his father, prompting his mother to relocate with his younger siblings.

Despite these hardships, Wanyonyi’s passion for running remained undiminished. A perceptive teacher recognized his talent and encouraged him to return to school, a decision that would pave the way for his athletic career.

Under the mentorship of renowned former athlete Janeth Jepkosgei – who linked him to Italian coach Claudio Berardelli, Wanyonyi honed his skills, setting the stage for his future successes.

Wanyonyi’s breakthrough came in 2021 when he clinched the gold medal at the World Under-20 Championships, setting a championship record in the process.

In 2022, he faltered finishing fourth at the World Athletics Championships, but he finally won his first senior medal in 2023 when he clinched silver at the World Championships in Budapest.

The youngster was nominated for the World Athletics Rising Star Awards in 2023, which he ended up winning

His upward trajectory continued, and by 2024, he had etched his name in the annals of athletics history. In April 2024, he set a world record in the road mile with a time of 3:54.56 during the adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

He won his first senior Olympic medal at the Paris Olympics, edging out fierce rivals Marco Arop and Djamel Sedjati to win the award.

This record stood until September 2024. Later that year, in August, Wanyonyi delivered a stellar performance at the Lausanne Diamond League, matching Wilson Kipketer’s 1997 time of 1:41.11 in the 800 metres, making them jointly the second-fastest athletes ever in this event, trailing only David Rudisha’s world record of 1:40.91.

Wanyonyi’s athletic prowess has translated into substantial financial rewards. His gold medal victory at the 2024 Summer Olympics not only brought him international acclaim but also a monetary prize of $50,000 from World Athletics, complemented by an additional Ksh3 million from the Kenyan government.

While specific figures regarding his earnings from the world record in Herzogenaurach remain undisclosed, it’s evident that such achievements come with significant financial incentives.

Moreover, his participation and victories in various Diamond League events have further augmented his income.

Considering these earnings, along with potential endorsements and sponsorships from companies like Adidas, it’s estimated that Wanyonyi’s net worth in 2025 is approximately $1 million.

    Emmanuel Wanyonyi’s personal life

Despite his rising fame and fortune, Wanyonyi remains grounded and private about his personal life. As of 2025, he has already concerned that he is in the process of courtship with an unnamed woman.

He outlined his conditions for what he wants in a potential wife, making it clear he wants to settle down with a local girl, rather than an urban one.

His focus appears to be steadfastly on his athletic career, with aspirations to break existing world records and further elevate Kenya’s prominence in middle-distance running.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi’s journey from a young cattle herder in rural Kenya to an Olympic gold medalist and world record holder is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and exceptional talent.

As he continues to push the boundaries of his sport, the world eagerly anticipates the next milestones in his already illustrious career.

Lewis Hamilton slower than Leclerc AGAIN on Ferrari SF-25 debut

Lewis Hamilton in action during the Ferrari SF-25 shakedown at Fiorano

Lewis Hamilton got his first taste of the Ferrari SF-25 in a shakedown run at Fiorano

Lewis Hamilton was 0.8 seconds slower than new team-mate Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari SF-25 shakedown at Fiorano, it has been claimed.

It comes just weeks after the former Mercedes driver lapped almost two seconds slower than Leclerc in a tyre test in Barcelona.

Report: Lewis Hamilton slower than Charles Leclerc in Ferrari SF-25 shakedown

Hamilton’s preparations for his first season as a Ferrari driver reached a key milestone on Tuesday when the team revealed their new car for F1 2025 in the immediate aftermath of Formula 1’s season-launch event in London.

The SF-25 recorded its first laps the following morning as Leclerc took to the circuit at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track for a brief shakedown test, completing around 30 laps before Hamilton took over for the afternoon session.

The shakedown represented the only running Hamilton and Leclerc will get behind the wheel of the SF-25 before the start of F1’s single pre-season test in Bahrain, which begins next Wednesday (February 26).

Ferrari elected against issuing an official report of the Fiorano shakedown with the run classed as a private filming day.

However, a report by Spanish publication Marca has claimed that Hamilton’s fastest lap at Fiorano was a massive eight tenths slower than Leclerc according to unofficial data.

The comparison is considered unrepresentative given that the Ferrari drivers were running on a special Pirelli tyres for the shakedown, which bear little resemblance to the tyres set to be raced during the season in F1 2025.

Hamilton’s latest pace deficit to Leclerc comes after Pirelli provided the first official comparisons between the new Ferrari team-mates over the course of a two-day tyre test in Barcelona earlier this month.

Having outpaced Leclerc by 0.130 seconds on the first day of running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where they shared a modified version of Ferrari’s 2024 car, Hamilton trailed his team-mate by a huge 1.788 seconds 24 hours later.

Pirelli stressed at the time that the published laptimes carried ‘no real significance given the different work programmes carried out’ by Ferrari and McLaren, who were also on track at the Spanish Grand Prix venue.

A separate report by Italian outlet Auto Racer has shed more light on the claimed fastest times, indicating that the Ferrari drivers were on separate programmes.

It is said that the greater experience of Leclerc, preparing for his seventh full season with Ferrari having arrived at Maranello ahead of the 2019 season, allowed him to push straight away even though ‘pure performance was not the priority’ of his run.

The main focus of Hamilton, meanwhile, was on building his confidence and getting a clearer picture of what he requires from the team and the car ahead of the new season.

It is reported that both drivers gave ‘positive feedback’ to the team after their respective runs.

    Content continues below

Hamilton, who turned 40 last month, struggled for one-lap pace during his final season at Mercedes in 2024, qualifying behind team-mate George Russell at 19 of the season’s 24 races.

It prompted the seven-time World Champion, whose only pole position over the last three seasons came at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, to concede that he is “not fast anymore” at the penultimate round of the season in Qatar.

Leclerc, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the fastest drivers over a single lap on the current grid.

The Monegasque has claimed 26 pole positions since 2019, putting him four clear of current Aston Martin driver and two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, who made his F1 debut back in 2001, on the all-time list.

However, Leclerc has been limited to just eight race wins to date, with Hamilton the record holder having claimed a 105th career triumph at Spa last July.

  • Alexander Canario, headlining prospect from Kris Bryant trade, DFA’d by Cubs

Alexander Canario, headlining prospect from Kris Bryant trade, DFA’d by Cubs

The Chicago Cubs designated Alexander Canario for assignment Thursday, clearing a spot for Justin Turner on their evolving 40-man roster and setting up a potential change-of-scenery trade for the 24-year-old outfielder.

Ahead of a season framed by playoffs-or-bust expectations, Chicago is moving on from the right-handed hitter. Canario, a prospect acquired in the Kris Bryant trade with the San Francisco Giants at the 2021 deadline, never got much runway at Wrigley Field. His arrival was delayed by injuries he suffered while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic after a breakout 2022 season.

That setback changed the trajectory of his career.

In a sense, the clock was already ticking for Canario, as the Giants had placed the young outfielder on the 40-man roster after the 2020 season. Fast forward to this spring training, and he was out of minor-league options, forcing the Cubs into a bigger decision about his future in an organization feeling win-now pressure.

After the Cubs posted an 83-79 record in back-to-back years — and traded for All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker among a series of offseason moves to address a flawed roster — two prominent projection models forecasted the team winning between 84 and 92 games. The more optimistic Baseball Prospectus PECOTA system has given the Cubs an 88.9 percent chance to make the playoffs, and FanGraphs has set those preseason odds at 54.3 percent.

“All that matters is what happens when we start playing,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said.

Turner, who signed a one-year, $6 million contract, brings elements the Cubs have been lacking. With an everyday lineup that’s been largely set, the club’s reserves were unimpressive in recent seasons. An improved bench with mix-and-match options would play to manager Craig Counsell’s strengths.

His career production has been worth 38.3 WAR, per Baseball Reference, and almost all of that value came in his 30s. He has also competed in 86 playoff games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, experiences the Cubs hope can help get them back to October.

“It’s a nice thing when you feel like you have a strong lineup on paper but also the opportunity to add to it if the opportunity presents itself,” second baseman Nico Hoerner said. “Whether that’s between now and Opening Day or again at the trade deadline, it’s nice to know that we have a roster that is ready to win a division.”

Canario, who will turn 25 in May, could be an appealing option for a rebuilding club. He has hit 109 home runs in the minors and posted an .866 OPS in 120 career Triple-A games. He made his major-league debut as a September call-up in 2023 but totaled only 45 plate appearances with the Cubs.

An extended opportunity wasn’t going to happen on a Cubs team so stacked with outfielders that Seiya Suzuki is projected to essentially be a full-time designated hitter. If Tucker or Ian Happ gets injured, Suzuki could move to the outfield and Turner could take over as the designated hitter. Kevin Alcántara, a top prospect who was acquired from the New York Yankees in the Anthony Rizzo trade at the 2021 deadline, appears to be the backup option to center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

The early start to the season via the Tokyo Series will accelerate some of these roster decisions that typically occur toward the end of March. The Cubs began Cactus League play Thursday and will leave for their Opening Day trip to Japan in less than three weeks.

“This is a better group than we assembled last year at this time,” Counsell said. “There’s always room to keep doing things and keep improving the roster. That’s a good spot. We’re in a good position from that perspective. Now, we got to go compete.”

Patrick Mooney is a senior writer for The Athletic covering the Chicago Cubs and Major League Baseball. He spent eight seasons covering the Cubs across multiple platforms for NBC Sports Chicago/Comcast SportsNet, beginning in 2010. • AC Milan make major Rafael Leao decision amid Chelsea transfer interest

AC Milan make major Rafael Leao decision amid Chelsea transfer interest

Chelsea are likely to be in the market for a new winger at the end of this season, with them being long-term admirers of one name in particular.

The Blues have been keen on signing Rafael Leao for a number of seasons now, with him being mentioned as a key target for the new owners despite interest already existing.

The current wingers at Stamford Bridge have not been setting the world alight. Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke have all come in for criticism this season.

Chelsea chiefs are not impressed by Sancho in particular, and it has been claimed they are still looking to sign a new left-winger despite the England international joining permanently this summer.

AC Milan open to selling Rafael Leao amid Chelsea transfer interest

Club captain Reece James is a notable fan of the Portugal international. James mentioned Leao as one of his toughest opponents after lining up against him in the Champions League.

Despite admiration, Chelsea didn’t want to pay Leao’s release clause back in 2022, however Milan’s stance on a deal seems to have softened.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A side are not convinced Leao has actually improved in the past few years.

The report goes on to say that they could be willing to accept a fee as low as £66m for the winger, less than half his release clause.

Graham Potter wanted to sign Leao when he was in charge of the club, and even though names such as Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have been mentioned as targets recently the desire to sign the 25-year-old has remained.

Joao Felix holds the key to Rafael Leao deal

Chelsea have held a strong working relationship with Milan, who have a number of former Blues on their books.

Their most recent addition from Stamford Bridge was Joao Felix, who joined on loan in January. Milan are keen on permanently signing Felix at the end of this season.

It has been mentioned that the Serie A side may struggle to meet the financial demands Chelsea will have for the Portuguese star to leave permanently.

Milan could offer a swap Chelsea, and with Leao’s admiration at Stamford Bridge and his current club’s lack of faith in him could present a perfect opportunity for the Blues to bring in a long-term target at last.

  • Vasseur says Hamilton has done something ‘mega’ behind the scenes at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton’s life as a Ferrari driver is in full swing after testing his 2025 challenger for the first time.

The seven-time champion drove the SF-25 at the team’s private Fiorano circuit on Wednesday. Thousands of Ferrari fans showed up at the track – as they did for Hamilton’s first official test in the 2023 car back in January.

Hamilton simply wrote ‘Grazie Tifosi’ on social media to show gratitude to the Ferrari faithful for their devotion and passion. The 40-year-old has struck a chord with the fans and his colleagues already.

Jerome D’Ambrosio says Hamilton’s meet-and-greet immediately won over Ferrari as he shook hands with every employee during his visit to the factory in Maranello.

The Brit has looked to integrate himself into Ferrari as quickly as possible and embrace his new surroundings. Hamilton has been learning Italian to fit in with the team properly – something Michael Schumacher was ‘never liked’ for trying to avoid.

Kimi Antonelli has been impressed by Hamilton’s Italian in the early stages. The Bologna-born driver has replaced the seven-time champion at Mercedes in 2025.

Frederic Vasseur says Lewis Hamilton has brought ‘mega enthusiasm’ to Ferrari

Hamilton has had to wait nearly a year for his sensational Ferrari move to become official. After such a long period, the Brit is more ready than ever to be competitive.

Hamilton says he is invigorated for the upcoming season. The seven-time champion looks more motivated than ever with a fresh challenge -something he needs after a disappointing end to his stint with Mercedes.

The Brit’s optimism has radiated throughout Ferrari. Speaking to Sky Sports F1, team principal Frederic Vasseur says Hamilton has brought ‘mega enthusiasm’ behind the scenes.

The Frenchman also touched on the incredible impact the 40-year-old’s arrival had for the team. Hamilton now has the most-liked F1-related Instagram post with his iconic picture outside Enzo Ferrari’s old house.

Vasseur could not help but laugh as he recalled the moment: “Yeah, this was an important step into the season probably! That it was a good launch but it’s more on the marketing.

“For sure it was very welcome. He’s bringing a new energy into the team, mega enthusiasm and so on. This is important for sure, even in terms of performance.

“But now we have to turn the page of this and to be focused on proper racing.”

Lewis Hamilton received an unbelievable reception at the F1 75 launch event

The day before his first outing in the SF-25, Hamilton made his first public appearance as a Ferrari driver at the F1 75 launch event at the O2 Arena in London.

All 10 teams revealed their liveries for the 2025 season, with Ferrari coming out second-to-last – the running order was the reverse of the 2024 constructors’ championship standings.

Hamilton received by far the biggest cheer from the crowd as he walked out on stage with Vasseur and Charles Leclerc. The incredible reception left Hamilton ’emotional’ at the event according to his team boss.

Craig Slater noticed several British fans wearing Ferrari clothing – something not normally seen in the UK but perhaps inevitable. Many would have followed Hamilton to Ferrari from Mercedes after his move.

The 40-year-old will make his debut for Ferrari on March 16 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Hamilton says his Ferrari debut feels like his F1 debut with McLaren in 2007 – and he would love to replicate his podium finish that day.

Usain Bolt reveals the time he would take to complete a 100-metre race eight years after retirement

Usain Bolt retired as one of the greatest sprinters to ever grace the track but eight years after calling it a day on his incredible career, the 38-year-old believes he could still clock a phenomenal timing in a 100-metre race.

The Olympic legend set a world record speed of 9:58 secs at the 2009 World Championships that has lasted until this day and does not look in danger of being beaten.

After a career full of medals and breaking world records, the Jamaican legend signed off in style by winning a bronze in the 2017 World Championships 100-metre race.

However, eight years after his last professional track event, Bolt still believes he could still record the kind of timing most could only dream of in a 100-metre race.

“Maybe 10:30, that would be me,” said the eight-time Olympic gold medalist on The Obi One podcast.

In his world record run of 9:58, Bolt ran the quickest 10-metre time in a mere 0.81 seconds, which is about the same speed as a horse.

Although the track legend agreed he was not quick as he was back then, Bolt revealed he was planning on training for three weeks and attempting to compete in a race to rubberstamp his 100-metre time eight years on from his retirement.

“Everybody asks this question now,” Bolt said.

“I’m gonna go home, I’m gonna train for three weeks, I’m gonna do some work for three weeks and go to the track and do it and see how fast and so I can put it out because I have no idea.”

Sprinting legend Usain Bolt remains the world-record holder over 100 metres

Bolt broke the 100-metre record three times in his career after first snatching the feat away from Tyson Gay in 2008 by clocking 9:72.

He then went on to break his own time in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Finals, only to later break it again in 2009 by clinching the gold medal in a record 9:58 secs.

His 100-metre record has not even been close to being broken as no sprinter has yet breached the 9:60 mark, though the likes of Noah Lyles and Gout Gout are both contenders for that crown in years to come.

Although he dominated the 100-metre dash throughout his career, Bolt’s world record in the 200-metre event of 19:19 also still remains intact and the track legend admitted he actually preferred the latter event compared to his trademark race.

Lakers vs Trail Blazers 110-102: Lebron James makes yet more history

LeBron James scores 40 as Lakers beat Trail Blazers 110-102, joining Michael Jordan with 2 40-point games after 40.

LeBron James recorded 40 points for the second time since turning 40, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 110-102 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday at Moda Center. James also grabbed eight rebounds as Los Angeles secured its sixth consecutive victory over Portland.

Austin Reaves contributed 32 points and seven assists, helping the Lakers recover from a 100-97 home loss to the Charlotte Hornets the night before. Dorian Finney-Smith added 10 points for Los Angeles.

Lakers guard Luka Dončić was rested due to a calf issue in the second game of a back-to-back set.

Deni Avdija led the Trail Blazers with 28 points and five assists. Toumani Camara added 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Portland dropped its fourth consecutive game.

James, who matched his career-worst mark with 11 turnovers, became the second player in NBA history to record multiple 40-point games after turning 40.

Michael Jordan remains the only other player to accomplish the feat, scoring 43 for the Washington Wizards against the then-New Jersey Nets on Feb. 21, 2003. James previously scored 42 points against the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 6.

Lebron also surpassed NBA great Vince Carter for 3rd all-time appearances in the NBA regular season.

Los Angeles shot 47.6% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, making 9 of 32 (28.1%). Portland shot 44.2% overall and hit 12 of 37 (32.4%) from three-point range.

The Trail Blazers trimmed an 11-point deficit to two when Avdija went on a personal 9-0 run, making it 66-64 with 6:03 left in the third quarter. Portland closed within one at 78-77 after a Camara three-pointer in the final seconds of the period.

The Lakers responded in the fourth. Anfernee Simons tied the game at 81 with a layup at the 10:40 mark, but Los Angeles answered with an 8-0 run, including two three-pointers from James.

Reaves extended the Lakers’ lead to nine with a steal and layup with 7:07 remaining. He later hit a three-pointer with 3:26 left, but Camara brought Portland back within 102-98 with 2:44 to go.

Gabe Vincent sealed the win with two free throws with 16.7 seconds left before Reaves forced a turnover on Jerami Grant. James added two free throws with 5.2 seconds remaining to secure his 40-point performance.

Reaves had 19 points in the first half, while James scored 16 as the Lakers led 55-47 at the break. Avdija had 10 first-half points for Portland.
