Arsenal’s record away at Tottenham in the North London Derby

Arsenal’s rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur is one of the most heated in the Premier League, and the North London Derby consistently produces exciting clashes.

The battle for bragging rights in North London often sees the home side triumph, with Spurs last winning at the Emirates Stadium in 2010, but Arsenal have now won the last two clashes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs built their new home after a long spell at White Hart Lane. Despite being the spiritual home of Tottenham, Arsenal did win two titles at the old ground, with the First Division in 1971, and the Invincibles triumphing in 2004.

Spurs moved to their new ground after a long process which saw them leave White Hart Lane in 2017, and play at Wembley Stadium temporarily, but Arsenal have fond memories at both grounds in the North London Derby.

In the Premier League era, Arsenal played at White Hart Lane 29 times, but recorded just seven victories, with 12 draws and 10 Spurs wins.

4-1 and 2-1 wins also came in the League Cup in 2010 and 2015, with Mathieu Flamini scoring an iconic brace in the latter.

Arsenal’s final game at White Hart Lane was not an enjoyable one, as a 2-0 loss in April 2017 meant that Spurs finished above the Gunners for the first time under Arsene Wenger.

After leaving White Hart Lane in 2017, Spurs played at Wembley for two seasons before moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Arsenal lost 1-0 in 2017-18, which was Wenger’s final North London Derby, with Alexandre Lacazette missing a golden chance to equalise in the final minute.

A year later, Unai Emery led Arsenal to a draw in his only away derby, which also came at Wembley, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a last-minute penalty which would have won them the game.

Spurs then moved to their new ground and beat Arsenal three times without conceding until last season.

Mikel Arteta led Arsenal to back-to-back wins in the other side of North London, with a 2-0 win in January 2023, and a dramatic 3-2 triumph in April 2024, and in his first five games at the ground, the Gunners have recorded two wins and three defeats.
